Considering we thought we werent going to like Koh Samui it actullay turned out to be a pretty cool few days. We had heard of a place called Jungle Club after reading other peoples blogs and decided to head there. We docked at Big Buddah pier on the north of the island and were herded in to the waiting over sized Tuk Tuks aka pick up trucks with roofs on. After some negotiations we were dropped off on the side of the road next to the Jungle Club sign, wondering were the hell it was as the driver didnt know and neither did we!!! We started to hike!! How far could it be? After all the sign was here!!! After walking about 200 yards we came to another sign pointing to a very uninviting (steep) hill. We started the ascent!! 100 Yards up and just as we were starting to feel the strain of the backpacks, our knight in shinning armour (English lad in silver pick up truck) pulled up along side us with a very vexed expression on his face. He guessed we were headed to the Jungle Club and said "You're not seriously thinking of walking up there" To
Jungle Club
The resturant which we replied "yeah how far can it be?" but he convinced us that we werent going to make it , so we hitched a ride.
Oh my god!! It was when he slipped the truck in to 4 wheel drive and told us to hold on as the road became rocky, and almost vertical that we wondered where the hell we were headed. As we reached the top the vexed look that John aka the knight had given us all made sense. That was not a track that should be tackled in flip flops and 14kg backpacks!!!! We had truly landed on our feet with this resort (see pictures). The staff were lovely, food was excellent and the views were amazing. To anyone headed to Chaweng and you dont want to stay in the main town head for this resort.
After a day of relaxing we decided to head out and see some of the island. We went to Chaweng center and beach, both were busy and dirty, as was Lamai. We also went and saw Big Buddah where we did our bit for charity and paid 20BHT to put our names on bricks which go towards
building a temple.
Our second day was a lot more fun. We went on a sight seeing/sea kayaking tour of the Ang Thong National Marine Park. Views were excellent and in our opinion, it was the best way to see the park. Not having Kayaked before, we didnt know what to expect. Our group was made up of middle aged German couples and us. All was going well untill our guide decided to take us through a tight rocky cove. By this point our stearing was less than brilliant and we some how managed to get stuck sideways. If anyone has seen Austin Powers, it was a lot like the scene with the buggy. Just as we got ourselves back on track, we managed to get stuck on a rock. Luckily one of the German couples came to our rescue and pushed us off. The sea was a little rough on our second trip out and a couple of pairs capsized. We were going well and just as we were preparing to come into shore, a large wave came from our side and we capsized. With Jo stuck under the kayak and Sarah frantically grabbing our belongings. The order
of priority went bags, flip flops, Jo!!! However one of the guides came to Jo's rescue and she survived. All in all we had a brilliant day and have now found a new love in Sea Kayaking. The next day we left for Krabi........
