Half moon
Me, Roz, Jo and Bob We arrived in Pha-Ngan and stayed at a place called Cabanna Resort which was just below Haad Salad. Very nice and very chilled out with white sandy beaches and palm trees. First night we went to the Half Moon Party in Ban Tai. We had no idea what to expect, our pick up truck aka taxi turned down a dark track which went on for about 200m (with the occasional lite torch) we were dropped in the middle of the jungle by a gate and told "through there" like lambs to the slaughter, we went through the gate and followed the boom boom (as the Thai people would say) to our surprise it seemed like a pretty wicked set up. However our arrival brought the grand total of people to ten (we were a bit early, dont get there till at least 11pm). Also handy note to all planning to go, take enough money as offer from Thai taxi man was to go 3s up on a moped, luckily this didnt happen, as Jo and Roz decided to pay a little extra and the jeep, safety first!
We had a wicked time and partied till 6am, we were introduced to
the world of buckets!
We stayed in Cabanna Resort for two nights before moving to Haad Rin for the Full Moon Party. We decided to stay in Haad Rin Nai as less boom boom and only 5min walk to Haad Rin Nok where the party is held. From here on in, our time in Pha-Ngan was all a bit of a blur as we spent most of our time drinking, dancing, sleeping, eating, and laying in vars watching films that we either didnt see the end of or didnt see the beginning. We now have a short list of films that we would like to see fully.
Beside the above activity, we decided it would be a nice idea to take a nice hiking trip to a couple of waterfalls and nature trail. According to our bible aka lonely planet it would be good to have a guide for this gentle stroll!!!! When we got there there was only one man who spoke no english and just kept pointing to a path saying yes. So we figured there was no guide and decided to follow his finger and some small yellow signs. We set off!!!
Ohh my
god!! we had decided that trousers and hiking shoes would be a good idea. We didnt account of the heat and so one hundred meters in to the acsent the heat took hold. Sweating it out we continued to climb up an almost vertical track(if you can call it a track) over roots and rocks, when we hit the waterfall at around 200 meters up. It wasnt amazing but still nice to see. We decided to get closer to the waterfall to take a breather, when Jo slipped and sliced her hand open, but all ok as Roz had her savalon plasters to hand. We went on to the view point which was about another 100 meters up. The view was well worth it. After deciding to take the nature trail which we assumed would bring us back to the beginning we got a little lost.
After hiking up another 200 meters we came across a no entry sign and an arrow pointing us in that direction. The sound of animals coming from the trees, the sign and the lateness of the day a group decission was made to go back the way we came. However we lost our
way and god knows how but we ended up coming down a near vertical cliff face(this def wasnt the track) with a n New Zealand girl wearing flip flops in tow and the sound of Jo saying "we all going to die, I'm serious". But all was ok as bush leader Bob stumbled on to the track, Hurragh!!! We were heading home. To celebrate our survival we went out and partied which led us to our pre-booked boat trip around the island (named the Snoop Dogg) the next day having none to very little sleep.
Not much to say about this trip apart from it was wet and cold and that we couldnt wait to get home. We paid so we went.
Next on our list was the full moon party not as good as we had hoped. Hectic to many people and all the bars seemed to be competing against each other and the music seemed to merge. To top it off I (Sarah) was ill. But saying that it was a happy atmosphere with everyone up for a party. Personally we prefered the warm ups where we partied until the sun came up. We came we
saw but we wouldnt come back just for this.
We leave for Samui
