From the ferry we watched sadly as Phi Phi Island slowly dissappeared. Then we turned our thoughts to Bangkok, how much could we fit in, in one day?
We arrived at Bangkok airport at 8.30 pm, after a short hopper flight from Krabi Town. the hotel we'd booked in at near the Koh San Road said they would keep our reservation until 10pm. Of course we hadn't anticipated how long the bags would take to come out. Bags retrieved, we bombed down to the meter taxi desk. We showed them the name and address of our hotel and they looked at each other and began laughing. We'd had it on good authority (our daughter) that this hotel was good!
We were allocated a taxi, jumped in and sped off. The driver waited until we were on the 3 lane motorway to pull over and ask if we had a map! We showed it to him but he didn't seem to know where we were going, we kept saying 'it's near the Khao San Road' to which he began laughing again. Strange guy! Eventually we showed him the phone number and he pulled out his cell phone and spoke to
Khao San Road
The road that never sleeps! the hotel reception. Presuming he'd got directions we happily set off. However as we got into the built up area he seemed clueless, we spotted the Khao San Road and told him so but he insisted on driving on regardless. He then stopped, asked a local passer by for directions and got back in the car declaring we'd just passed it. We did try to tell him. After negotiating the one way system for ages we finally arrived. The time? 5 mins to ten.
We marched up to reception and pulled out 2 A4 sheets with our booking details printed on. The receptionist said 'We are full, we have no room for you' 'We booked in August' I said 'then confirmed in December as you asked!' 'No' she said ' you cancelled, we have no rooms' This conversation went on for sometime but to cut a long story short she eventually pulled up a key with a sticker with our name written on. Success! 'That's us' I said but she wasn't happy until she'd seen our passport and compared names.
At last we had a key in our hands! We dumped our bags and went in search of a much
needed large Chang.
Khoa San Road is a different experience and while I wouldn't want to live there it was fun for one night and a day.
We spent the next morning trying to find the Grand Palace only to find the queues were too long, we had to leave for the airport in the middle of the afternoon so decided to save the tour for when we return in July. We spent the rest of the day shopping and lounging by the pool of our hotel. And yes, it was good so I don't know why the taxi people were laughing!
I'm now back at home and back at work. Oh well all good thing come to an end!

Happy memories
Reading your blog and seeing the photos has brought back a lot of happy memories of when I was in Thailand. It looks so hot there at the moment! We are currently tolerating fairly cool weather here in Patagonia. It is beautiful here though.
