Pictures first, words to follow....... MERRY XMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.....wish I was there but glad I am here 😊
Now that I have recovered from a few days of revellry , partying and spending xmas day in waist deep , tourquoise blue warm ocean water ( note I didnt say SNOW !!!!!!!) I can fill you all in on what xmas in Thailand is like, at least for me.
Since there are so many Farangs (foreigners) here in Pattaya no stone is left unturned to make us all feel at home thai style. An evening spent on Walking Street ( Bars, Restaurants, Go Go Bars and even more bars was a fascinating experience that peeked all the five senses to the max. I managed to make friends with an American dude and an English bloke whilst consuming copious amounts of beer followed by FREE buffet dinner (all you can eat). Many establishments here serve up free nosh on special events or holidays so as to attract as many party goers as possible. In fact with a bit of research you could probably eat free all the time and only pay for the beer as there are literally
hundreds of bars and restaurants here all trying to relieve the tourists of ther cash and making walking that much easier.
Fireworkes are in abundance. Every tom ,dick and harry can buy explosives here and light them off anywhere, anytime. Caution and quick feet are a necessity here during festive events since you never know when the grund beneath you might errupt and send you into a highland fling trying to avoid getting burnt. Very loud explosions can be heard night and day, thats right, thais even light up the sky during the day which to me seems like a total waste of time but hey, this is thailand anything goes anytime anywhere. Be prepared to be shaken from a sound sleep even at 3 in the morning if you are crazy enough to even go to bed on xmas or new years.
Santas (fat, drunk and loud farangs all decked out in full Santa suite) roam the streets and the go go bars, beautiful thai ladies, with accompanying attire ( or not) entice Santa to part with as much cash as possible without getting injured or accosted in the process. The partying went on all night and even
the rising of the sun saw little decrease in the noise and revelry. I guess some would argue they are sun worshipers but never fear the only bowing most partiers did was over the toilet bowl I am sure.
Although the Thais dont observe Xmas per se since most of the population in Buddhist they always love a party atmosphere and love to join in the spirit ( alchohol or not)
I think a few words of explanation would be a good idea concerning the 3 ladies in the pictures that accompany this post. The day before xmas I was sitting on the beach at sunset as I am want to do every night and I was greeted by 3 thai ladies who were on break from work ( Thai massage girls for the biggest hotel in Jomtien so very respectable in case you think I have sunk to the depths of depravity...hahahaha ). Something adventurous seems to happen to me every day for some reason, whether I am looking for it or not and these 3 lovely ladies in a space of 2 hours and a couple of beers became my good friends and companions over xmas.
Infamous Walking Street in Pattaya
The worlds playground for whatever money can buy and sold always with a big smile I was informed by the girls they didnt work xmas and wanted to party with me if I was willing ( my dime I might add which is thai custom, the man pays the whole ball of wax. ) I took a big gulp threw caution to the wind and said why not, there might be a great story for my blog in this adventure.
Xmas day started with the 3 ladies offering to give me a free thai massage, all in unison I might add ( eat your heart out Phil...hahaha) that lasted about an hour then we headed out to a scenic view point overlooking Pattaya and paying our respects to Buddha and snapping a few pics. Then it was back home for some thai food and beer and more beer on the beach and watching the fireworkds. After downing about 8 beers between us we were well oiled enough to give a go at Karaoke and belting out a few (25) songs over a few more beers. One of the girls had an awesome voice while the other two and myself couldnt hold a note if our lives depended on it. The proprietor closed the doors
so no one outside could hear the cats crying to words on a screen. Then it was back to the beach , about 2 am and more fireworks and more beer and snacks and finally about 4 we all went our separate ways for a good sleep and recovery from an Xmas that I will never forget.
New Years is even more of a festive occasion as the thais really do celebrate it so stay tuned for the New Years update.........
Happy New Year Everyone...........
