From Club Class to Ritz Hotel...

Ok, so started well... arrived at Heathrow to be told by a rather surprised check-in clerk that 'computer says upgrade!', we were upgraded to business class, so flat beds and champagne all the way.

We didn't stick around in Bangolore, got the first fast train to Mysore. Train toilets were fine, although it was an AC chair car so no riffraff. Got into Mysore and rickshawed it to the 'Ritz Hotel', middle priced according to Lonely Planet, all of a couple of quid a night. Basic it has to be said but clean. The noise is amazing, they all seem to toot each other rather than use mirrors or traffic signals. Second thing to hit is the smell. A sort of putrid mix of urine, sweat and sandalwood, although a day in and I can't really smell it anymore, so we must have adjusted. We've tucked in to a little street food, but not gone the whole hog and eaten dinner from a stall.

We arrived on Sunday, which is the only day of the week that the palace is all lit up like Blackpool - quite a sight. Then today we got a rickshaw 1000ft up to the Chamundi Hill, great views and a spectacular temple. Gave our first Lloyds TSB branded pen to a budding entrepreneur (aka 8 year old).

Off to Ooty tomorrow on a deluxe bus, which we think means it has 4 seats abreast rather than 5. Tom is depressed now he's seen the cricket result, although at least the locals can talk cricket reasonably fluently.

We'll add photos when we fnd a machine with the a USB slot that I can get the card reader into.

Heard news stories that Heathrow Terminal 4 had a huge problem with losing bags over the weekend so glad all seems fine with you - can't believe you got upgraded!!
