The family is now travelling in xiamen in search of our roots..where our parents came from. I am travelling with my nephew, niece and sisters. Xiamen was the first place i visited way back in 2003 and it's the first place i'm visiting with my family again..to bring them to see Gulang Yu, Wuyi Mountain and of course, taste the delicious seafood - the flower crabs, the prawns, the tea...etc etc..
enjoy the pix!!

This is "tor soon tang" which is a local jelly made with embedded worms...and eaten only once a year..during winter when the gelatin from the worm is solidified. How does it taste like? hmmm..chewy like a gum. Bland - so u need horse radish, wasabi! U gotta try it to believe that such things exist. Btw, it's my mum's fav!

the famed "o-ah-jian" aka oyster omelette is the "die-die" must try dish when u visit xiamen..we tried various editions - super fried one, the "gooey" one and both are nice! Except my nephew complained it got too much "chang"!

the "zhu pai" is made up of two bamboo rafts which are bound together with rope..yep..a bit flimsy but it works real fine. We travelled on the river and the two boatmen skillfully pulled us along using two long bamboo poles..it was a nice tho' cold ride..along the river

Hi there. I wonder if you could help me out. Do you know how long the ferry ride from Xiamen to Gulangyu is? Also do you remember what the cost was and finally, when the last ferry left the port frmo Inland Xiamen to Gulangyu? The reason I ask this is because I am thinking of staying in the hostel on the Island and commute to Xiamen everyday. Do you think it is worth it?
