Sort of half way again. The SWCP is now history and we tackle the 2 Moors Way in the next couple of days. We walk back to near the start, that’s back to not backwards! We will walk to the Tarr Steps near Withypool and am very much looking forward to it. Different to the SWCP but it should hold challenges and delights.
Today was spent in the rain and wind. The first photo is just of the rain as we set off. Tough job to commence in the rain but… There were clear periods that were quite pleasant but we knew the driving rain was never far away. It was a 3 pairs of socks day which by any measure is not good. So much water ran down my legs that gathers and socks could both be wrung out. My boots are so waterproof that when I took them off I could pour the water out! Again not a good look. It makes things tough on your feet and when 20 km is a short day something has to give. Again the scenery is spectacular and varied. Plenty of rocks (again) that makes progress slow and so much undergrowth
that even when it’s not raining is keeps you dripping wet. In places it was necessary to bend and crouch which makes walking difficult.
Meet some more wild ponies. But I think I have the horse whisperer gift as I told them to stay there and not bite me and that’s what they did!
But a shared pasty and a cream tea at about half way compensates for a lot.
Walked to and through Mousehole. Delightful little place, super cute and really nice. The last 3 miles are all on tarmac, sort of through the suburbs (but along the coast) and quite ironic really considering all the obstacles placed in our way over the last 400km or so. To finish on smooth, flat and easy to walk tarmac was as i said quite an irony.
Called into the supermarket for the now obligatory ciders and managed to get a chook (not easy here), some salad, avocado and some cheese. Our BnB is excellent and encouraged us to heat up the chicken, have a couple of ciders and serve ourselves using their crockery and cutlery. All good.
Still some homework to do so will go.

I'm afraid that title is really only coincidentally related to your trip. If needed, you can google the lyrics quoted. Oh, to be in England precisely when one great monarch dies, and another (another monarch strictly, maybe not-so-great?!) takes the throne! Lots of great qualities are said to skip a generation, no? I'm guessing this might all be followed with louder cries from both camps: "Long live the monarchy!" and "It was fun while it lasted, but it's time to move on!" Looking forward to your Aussie take on it. My best to you and Julie in your treks. Carry on, Sir! MG
