We are not at Two Bridges, I don’t even know where it is, but I saw 2 Bridges today so that near enough. We’re in Westward Ho! It’s the only place name I know that really has an exclamation mark. I’ve used them for some ‘exclamable’ places before but this one has an official one.

Dined at the Wayfarer Inn in Instow last night and I had some delightful mussels. The sauce was garlic, a little browned onion, some butter and slightly thickened probably with Devon cream and it was delicious. Also had some scallops that were sweet and pretty good but the mussels were a tough act to follow. Because we were so close to the sea Julie had some nachos! The pub is full of ‘kitch’ seafaring icons but it’s not coy or fake. I liked it and because we had time to kill in the morning I even had a cooked breakfast, poached eggs and a little bacon.

The time to kill is the result of us catching the ferry and not walking down one side of the river, crossing a bridge and walking back up the other side. But the ferry can only operate at high tide so for 5 hours we had to just sit it out and wait. Surprise, surprise we were the first in the queue to board. The service is a community service manned predominantly by volunteers but in the high season (now) it makes a small fortune. It was good though.

Appledore is one of those old, quaint and quirky towns that abound in the UK. Heaps of people fishing and just having a look around.

We walked through the narrow streets lined with colourfully painted and unusually named homes and out the other side. Somehow we missed a turn and cut even more off the walk than we should arriving in Westward Ho! feeling as if we had cheated a bit too much. Tomorrow and the following day will get us back through. It’s back to up and down (big ones) and along the cliff faces. Those familiar with Clovelly will know what I mean as that’s where we head tomorrow.

I’m pretty sure its cheap Chinese tonight. Where we are staying doesn’t fill me with culinary anticipation. It’s a bit like the Burvale and even the surrounds are predominantly arcades, amusements and mini-golf. It’s that tacky English seaside promenade so it may pay to walk a little and find something to eat. We’ll see.

Caio for now.

Anderson has his suspicions
Anderson says it is very suspicious that Grandy took a wrong turn and ended up on a golf course!

Clever comments Anderson. But really a coincidence. I have been having wild blackberries everyday and I think of you when I pick them.
