Edit Blog Post
I’m kcab.
I think due partly to a change of email address and more probably to my lack of blog skills my previous travel blogs are floating somewhere in the internet ether. They are findable and may give you some amusement although if anyone does locate them it probably means they have too much time on their hands.
To anyone likely to take umbrage at my intentional double usage of the word ‘ramblings’ I give you warning there are more to come and you probably should run away now, delete any bookmarks to the site and put some some kind of block on the site.
The reference to let the games begin is not meant to point towards any Hunger Games dystopian fiction and I certainly hope (for Julie’s sake) that it’s not the case. Julie, is my sister who is walking the South West Coast Path and the 2 Moors Way with me. She has walked with me before in 2019 when we tackled the Pennine Way and in 2017 when we walked the Tour de Mt Blanc. The fact she is returning for a third dose may say a lot about my sister but I better not
explore that path! With the closing of the Comm Games in Birmingham the real ‘game’ can begin. It’s the hunt for the gold medal Cornish pastie, that personal best cream tea (note the careful deference to Somerset, Cornwall and Devon), the team work required to locate that scrumpy cider and yes by the effort of 20 or so km for the next 4 weeks.
The South West Coast Path and the 2 Moors Way follows the coastline (some instructions for walking the SWCP say just keep the oceans to the right) and I’ve included a map that approximates the route. The red bit is the walking component and the blue a train trip we take to the start of the 2 Moors Way. Anyone who points out the train goes over the water is welcome to be navigator on my next walk! Similarly the route follows the coast quite closely and the red line only approximates the path. What the line cannot and does not even approximate is the vertical ascent and descent which over the entire SWCP is equivalent to climbing Mt Everest 4 times. Very difficult to believe but my research confirms it! That ascent is over
the entire path as we are not walking the entire length but…
Again I’m walking with the Contours Walking people who I’ve found to be really good. They provide thorough accommodation details, maps, guide books etc and really do all the booking stuff and just leave the ‘leg work’ to us. Their website is easy to access and contains heaps of information and details on heaps of walks. They are very good for the UK and I’ve used them extensively in the past. Their costs are creeping up but so far so good.
So there’s the initial outline of what’s on. Soon(ish) I’ll go through some details as to how we get there, where I start and that sort of thing.
Caio for now.
