What a good night sleep. I think we all fell asleep 5 minutes after lying down. It was so nice to have peace and quiet, a dark room and air conditioning. Feeling a bit guilty not getting out as early to explore but a mllazy morning is probably needed.
Anne and I spent a bit of time trying to get some blog posts up to date while the kids slept in. It would have helped to have a bit more coffee. I think both of us have had much less coffee than usual on this trip but itbwas so gpod to have some provided by the air bnb. That is after we figured out the espresso machine and added water ubtil ut became a regular coffee.
We all packed up and went to drop Anne and Camille off at a Pastel de Nata cooking class given by a pastry chef at a nearby bakery and Cameron and Geoff went to Ericeira beach nearby.
Anne and Camille had a great time learning how to make the pastries and were in a class with a Brit, a few people from south Africa and some Canadians from Calgary. Their father was
a businessman working in Johannesburg. Nice people. We were able to get 5 pastries that were safe for Cameron and we bought an extra 10 for the rest of us....so good. Camille's plan is to teach her grandmother how to make them so she can make them all the time for us!
Meanwhile, Cameron and I went to a fancy beach town with white washed homes and gated communities. There was an outdoor market and a few nearby beaches. Camille would have loved the bracelets and crystals. The boys walked down to one of the beaches and went for a swim....and the water was pretty cold. Cameron said it was hurting his feet it was so cold. His feet did look a little blue! So change of plan, went back up the hill and watched some surfing and walked around the town.
After our mini excursions, we gathered back up and decided to head to Obidos foe the evening instead of going tomorrow. A quick drive and we were at the city walls of the old Moorish castle. We originally went there to see the castle and walk on the 1.5 km castle wall around the city. Obidos
obly has 2000 people living there andbits beautiful with its white washed houses in the hills. The castle wallsl just drop off the side with no guard rail. You can see the houses and castle walls to one side and the countey side on the other.
To our surprise, the Obidos medieval festival was on and there were lots of people dressed in medieval time clothing and there were all kinds of displays and events showing the ole ways. They even gave people discounts on tickets if you dressed up. It was really cool and made the visit to the castle even more special. Kids absolutely loved it! They even had open fire bbqs where they roasted meats and kebobs. It smelled so good. Even the walk back through the inner castle walls to get out had an old school charm to it. It was very well done. Camille and Cameron said it was their favorite part of the trip so far.
