We woke up early this morning and finished cleaning out the fridge, cabinets and packed away all of the kitchen items. After breakfast we hit the road at around 9, with our first stop in downtown Stevenson at the local ACE hardware store to have our propane tanks filled. The young man that was helping us said that he was sorry that we were not able to view this area, The Columbia River Gorge, as it was quite beautiful. As you would expect the visibility did not get any better the closer we got to Portland, in fact, it only got worse.
We arrived at Mt. Scott Motor's at 10:45 to drop off the RV's. The check in process was quick, and the people could not have been any nicer. While seeing a major part of Washington and Oregon, we had put on1912 miles, and fortunately with no mishaps. During our taxi ride to our hotel, our driver mentioned that there were several fires near Portland, the largest one only about 6 miles away. Some of them had been started by arson, and the others by lightening. He said that he had never seen the smoke this bad before.
Arriving at the hotel we were able to get an early check in, dropped off our bags and walked to a local Pub for some lunch. We all enjoyed the food so decided to head back for dinner tonight. Going back to the Hotel, we face timed with our Grand daughter, caught up on some TV, and took a nap. Since we have an 3:40 AM pick up, we plan on hitting the sack early, and we are all looking forward to sleeping in a bed where the sheets don't slip down during the night! It will also be a pleasure not to have to crawl in and out of bed.
Though we are all disappointed that our trip was hindered with the smoke, we still had a great time, and many laughs along the way. Hope you all enjoyed following our antics, and now on to planning next years trip, maybe France again?
