blog 03-11-20 Saguaro National Park

Again after checking the weather it seemed that the best time to visit Saguaro Nat'l Park was this morning. I knew I'd be doing a lot of walking at the park and Watson was coming with me today. So we packed up water, camera and lenses and headed south to Tucson.

I was in the park for some time before I came to the visitors center where we stopped and I got my passport book stamped. There was going to be a guided tour in a few minutes so we joined up and started to learn about the desert plants and animals when Watson suddenly barked and disturbed the peace so we left and did our own tour.

I followed a 7 mile loop dirt road that wound around a section of the park to various hiking trails. I wanted to take the trail to the petroglyphs so when I found that we headed out. Half way down the trail before the hill there was a sign that said no dogs any further so we had to go back. It was too warm to leave him in the car while I went so we just enjoyed the trail we could go on and experience a truly pristine desert environment.

I'm surprised at all the different birds in the desert. They sing and fly around a lot and add to my enjoyment so much. The desert is truly a special place and one that is slowly growing on me. I've only seen it in the cooler weather with flowers all over, how can you not like that.

The sky was iffy, clouds that looked threatening, then hazy, then blue sky. It was tricky photographing but also added to the beauty. At one area the distant mountains were lit, the valley was cloudy and the foreground had sun. It was really pretty.

I can't believe how beautiful nature is when left to it's own. When you drive in the city and suburbs then drive in the park, it's an entirely different world. I am so thankful that our forefathers had enough wisdom to set aside these special places for all of us to enjoy.

I stopped for some groceries then we headed home back to our little piece of paradise.

We love Saguaro National!
We visited the park this past November and it was gorgeous. We had two beautiful weeks if sun which was awesome for us and brought out all the snakes and lizards for us to see. Very cool! The kids were estatic to see something sunning itself on a rock around every corner. Can't wait to go back! -Adena, B, Cora, Gray, and Mara Beck.
