Back To Where We Started

After much debate and plenty of budgeting and estimates we arrived back in Auckland by plane the day before yesterday and are now preparing for the holiday bit of our travels....our 2 weeks in Fijian sunshine!

We spent our second last night on the South island in Omaru spotting penguines! There were rakes of them all coming ashore and waddling up beside us and they were only tiny and sooo cute. That night I went out to the car for my purse and spotted two crossing the car park...they scurried in under the car once they saw me, it was so sweet! They are literally everywhere at night, its sooo cool.

Christchurch (although we didn't get to spend much time there) was nice...bigger than excpected - a lot bigger than Wellington although nothing over here compares to Auckland (something like a thrid of their population live in just that one city!).

Went out last night for our last night out in NZ, great night altogether, tonight will be an early one coz we're catching our plane to Fiji in the morning. The situation there seems to have eased (the trouble in Tonga prob diverted attention away from it) so hopefully we won't be there to witness any military coup. With electricity effectively rationed over there I won't be internetting too much but I do hope to have plenty of nice Fijian photos to upload whenever I can.


Hope you're all keeping well...I'll be thinking of you lot while I'm on my hammock on the beach!

PS U2 are playing here tonight and 2mar....great excitement over it, everywhere's booked out and there's Bono impresonators everywhere! You can't beat the Irish eh?

Hi emer. Nice to hear about the friendly penguins. Gudging by the state of the room, old habits die hard!! Hope u all have a peaceful holiday in figgi. Will be thinking of you while we shiver and shake in the freezing temp.here. xMam
