Mexican Eatery in the Airport
Really good food, good prices and nice ladies. Here we go again! We departed the US on September 30, 2019 (I have to do that so I can remember when we traveled to where).
We arrived in Mexico City (CDMX) and had a twelve hour layover for our next flight. We stayed at the Airport Hilton which was actually IN the airport. We took an elevator from the concourse, and BOOM! We were in the lobby. Too convenient. Had we known then what we know now, we would have probably grabbed a bus to San Miguel de Allende (hereafter known as SMA). We are taking the bus back to Mexico City. We took our bags to our room and went back into the airport to get some food. Mexico is not like the US in that they don't try to rip you TOO BADLY on food. It may be a bit more than outside, but not that much. Anyway, we found this cute little Mexican food place, much like you would find on the street. The prices were great. The food? Muy deliciosa. I will upload a couple of photos that are panoramic. (After uploading, I notice they are not "grab and move.")
Okay, we got maybe
Un Huarache
Really, a huarache is a peasant sandal made of a piece of tire tread cut to fit the foot, with leather straps. This DID NOT taste like an old sandal. This food was from the little Mexican food eatery we found inside the airport. four hours of sleep, jumped up about 0430am and headed for our flight. The Mexican version of TSA was efficient but a bit lax. The flight from CDMX to Leon (BJX) was short and uneventful. We had already gone through customs and immigration in CDMX, so we just grabbed our bags and headed out to meet our ride. We had reserved BAJIOGO.com, a private transport company. The driver met us with a paper with my name on it and off we went. He brought us right to the front door of our house sit. We were met by our hosts and settled in. They have a house that looks a lot like a stone castle and we got the "apartment" which is a fully equipped BR, BA and small kitchen. Very comfy. THEN, the lights went out. This house is totally off the grid. Not hooked up to electricity, water nor sewage. Solar provides the power, a well for water and a septic tank for, well, you know. We went dark for the rest of the evening and VOILA, lights again in the morning. We have been using the big power hog appliances only in the morning so the batteries
Street Tacos
Rose decided to go with safety. Not that adventurous when it comes to food. have plenty of time to recharge. Five days into our SMA adventure and we are still good.
We have three dogs and five cats, mostly older in our care. They are fairly low maintenance. The cats have their own room in the house, and the two big dogs enjoy the run of the two and a half acre lot. The little fluff ball sleeps in the bed with us.
Our hosts gave us three full days of training on how to run the house and take care of the pets. Then, on Thursday, they took off for their beach vacation. We got up the next morning and went downtown. Probably not a good idea. Major traffic. We got some chow, I got my hair cut and we came back to the house. Today, Rose wanted to go to the tianguis (outdoor market), which turned out to be a total disappointment. Not much there. We also hit the Mercado Sano (The Healthy Market) where everything is supposedly organic. We decided to be adventurous and take the bus back to where we parked the truck. We left it in the parking lot of La Comer, which I assume is short
Thor
Meet the pets. This is Thor and he "thinks" he is the Alpha Dog. He is a gentle giant and a real sweetheart. Scratch under his chin and you have a friend for life. for La Comercial, since no other translation makes sense. It is a huge store kind of like a Super WalMart, only nicer. They have the largest selection of cheeses I think I have ever seen in one place. We filled up the truck and headed for home. Oh, I did go in the store trying to find some Cerveza Allende. Amazingly, they do not stock it. I guess if I try one it will be in a restaurant or maybe I can find it at a tiendita.
Mañana, we are going to Ciro's for gorditas. YUM YUM!
