I really haven't been putting a lot of effort into this blog. If you are still reading it - sorry about that.

We ended up at Katherine for three nights at the Riverside Tourist Park, 400m from the Katherine hot springs, which are a group of warm pools amongst some nice palm trees that people can sit in and relax at a balmy 28 degrees. Amy spent a fair bit of time in them!

Katherine was the first major spot where we changed oils in the trucks, minor repairs, shopping of dry goods and were able to relax doing nothing for a while. The kids and Phil chased some fish (hoping for Barra but more likely to get Mullet) but without success. We managed to meet up with some friends from Tassie - the big Pom and Roy. We had quite a jovial night telling Dad jokes to my kids and filling up our respective repertoires for when we return to work. The evenings are fantastic in that we are able to sit around in shorts early and then retire to bed in the coolness of night. Nothing worse than trying to sleep in the still heat.

On Monday, I scooted up the Stuart Highway to pick up Suz and Jen from the Darwin airport. Without the trailer on and the 130kmh speed limits, it was a pretty quick and easy trip. Oh. Except for the damn caravans. OMG they are slow. And annoying. And there was a massive group of Jehovah's Witnesses with caravans all travelling together. Proved a little difficult to get some clear air but was all good in the end. The plane ended up getting delayed so I stocked up on booze at the local bottle-o near the airport. Like Katherine, you need to have your ID scanned to purchase alcohol, but unlike Katherine there did not appear to be a limit on purchase quantities, so I stocked up for our 21 days between Kununurra and Broome. The lady serving did not even look sideways at me :-)

The following day we packed up for the 500km journey to Kununurra, WA grabbing some last minute supplies before the drive. There is some beautiful changing country on this particular drive ranging from sparse desert to bushland to some big rock formations and beautiful escarpments. We ran up a track to a lookout over Timber Creek and the Victoria River. It is wonderful country but very harsh, especially to the uninitiated. I doubt I'd last half a day if I was dropped in the middle of the scrub with nothing but my wits!

Last night was spent at Kununurra, WA for the first of three nights. A bit difficult adjusting to the time difference. I think we were all in bed before 8pm local time!!!
