Day 28
2/06/2019
Banff – 2 Jack Lake

We started the morning with freshly made cappuccinos from our resident barista Ron and hot croissants. We loaded up Scott’s truck and we headed off for Banff. We drove via Calgary and then stopped in Canmore to buy some supplies. We dropped into the Bagel Store for freshly made Bagels of choice with toppings/fillings of choice. We travelled on to the campsite and it was perfect. We had a view of the lake through the trees and the shore was only 20 metres from where we were going to pitch the tent. We unloaded the truck and Scott and Ron went to collect the fire wood. On their way back they noticed an Elk just down the track from the campsite. It was young male as its antlers were still velvety. The elk seemed comfortable around people as it didn’t shy away from us when it spotted us. Of course this presented a fantastic photo opportunity. Then it was down to business of setting up the truck tent for Karly and Scott and the tent for Ron and me. Penn brought the canoes with her so we unloaded them and put them at the lake. After the campsite was set up it was time to go for my canoeing lesson. Out we went Penni and I. We paddled around the lake for about half an hour then it was Karly and Ron’s turn. Scott started the fire. Oh I forgot to mention how magnificent the Rock Mountains are. They still had some snow on the peaks and to look at them from the middle of 2 Jack Lake was stunning. We cooked cheese Kranskys on the open fire and turned them into fancy hot dogs with salad, dressings and cheese. Of course you cannot forget desert of toasted marshmallows and chocolate covered salted pretzels. Of course we had a few drinks along with dinner to ward off the pending cold night. Penni had arranged an apartment in Canmore to stay in so she went back before it got dark. It doesn’t get dark until around 11 pm at this time of year. We sat and chatted around the campfire until around 1 am then went to bed.

Mozzies?
You might yet be to comment on this in future entries, but I can’t help wondering what the mozzies are like around the lake?? I know when we were in Anchorage in the summer they were truly awful. Hopefully not so bad in Canada? ?T
