Edmonton- Breakfast with the Boss
We needed to wake up early as Karly and Scott’s boss Jason decided that he wanted to throw a “Meet Karly’s Mum Breakfast”. Jason had arranged for a pancake breakfast with all of the trimmings at the office so that all of the workers including the techs, installers and the office staff could get to meet Ron and me. It was a really lovely thought and we appreciated all of the effort that Jason and Deanna went to. It was great to finally put faces to the people that Karly always talks about. We needed to be mindful to not eat too much because we were on our way to the High Level Diner to have the most amazing Cinnamon Buns. We decided to order one each with the Bourbon Caramel sauce on the side. I also ordered a “bowl” of coffee, not really knowing what size it would be thinking that it could possibly be the size of a mug. Nope I got that wrong! It was more like a large soup bowl which probably was the same as 2 mugs. Apart from the coffee being on steroids so was the
cinnamon bun. I’m not going to complain as it was absolutely delicious and I would have been disappointed and would have wanted more if smaller. That was lunch done and dusted by 11 am. On the way home we stopped off at a Dive shop to buy snorkels and masks for us to use in Mexico. What an interesting experience trying on the masks and seeing if the fitted. You cannot visit Edmonton and not visit the West Edmonton Mall which is huge and amazing, so off we went to share the experience with Ron. Due to the weather not being that great for 6 months of the year they have attached different areas to the shopping centre all under the one roof. Apart from it being a normal shopping centre with a large number of exclusive shops they have different areas with various activities. The first one was an Olympic sized ice rink where on a Thursday there were people having coaching lessons for figure skating. They play ice hockey on here too! We watched them with interest for a while, then off down another wing of the centre where we found an amusement park, both for the kids
and adults. We watched the roller coaster take people up down around and upside down. No I wasn’t game enough to give it a try. It was like a smaller scale Luna Park. Off we headed to another wing and we came to an eatery where Scott decided that we needed to experience a “Poutine” which comprises of hot chips, cheese curds and hot gravy. Ron enjoyed them and so did I. We went past the swimming pool that had a wave pool, with Palm trees and cabanas to rent for a time. I suggested to Ron that we go and check out the seals and he agreed not realizing that they had a live show in the centre of the mall along with a Pirate ship. We watched the seal show and interestingly the trainer used similar commands for the seals as we would with dogs. Ron found it very interesting. Then off down another wing of the mall to the shooting range, where you could buy almost any type of gun that you wanted. I watched some guys shooting at targets and then decided that it was a little creepy. Last stop on the whirlwind tour was the
hotel whose lobby was in the shopping centre. Over all it is a pretty impressive mall. We decided that we would have a barbeque for dinner with Rob, Penni, Scott’s grandmother Marilyn, and his brother Mark and wife Caleigh. Scott started up a fire in their fire pit and we sat and ate outside and had a couple of drinks and a chat until late in the evening again. Before we knew it, it was after 11 pm, so with a very quick succession of showers and a tidy up and off to bed as we are off to Mexico early in the morning.

Celebrities!
Breakfast with all of Karly’s workmates sounds fabulous. What a lovely boss she has to think of doing something like this. With Karly living and working so far away it is nice to be able to put faces to the names that she talks about with you. But of course he is a Canadian so almost as cool as an Australian!!
