Turtle in Apo island
I saw at least 12 in one day! The coral reef is one of the best I've seen in the Philippines I haven't written anything in a while. Since my last entry about Spain I've been to Italy, France, Belgium, Singapore, UAE, Ethiopia, Egypt, Israel, Palestine, Turkey, Indonesia, and I've also been traveling a lot in the Philippines lately. I've been incredibly busy lately and haven't found time and energy to write.
But today I found myself looking at properties in Dumaguete after my recent trip there. It's a coastal city in the island of Negros in central Philippines. I've been born and raised in Manila and I thought I wouldn't exchange it for any other city in the Philippines because it has the most vibrant art scene. You can't find theater, symphony, ballet, international touring casts of wold famous musicals, and other music acts in any other place outside of Metro Manila. I've traveled to many other islands in the Philippines and many of them are stunning but I just couldn't imagine living in those places. Lately though because so much of my money have been spent on traveling, I haven't seen as much shows as I used to. Although I am missing them, I know I can now live without them on the regular. This is the first time
Casaroro Falls
30 minute drive from Dumaguete. Water is cold as most falls are. You also need to hike for about 30 minutes to get here. Small price to pay for this beauty I've considered living anywhere outside of Metro Manila and here are seven reasons why I'd pick Dumaguete if I were to move anywhere here in the Philippines:
1. No pollution! It's not squeaky clean but people just don't litter. The streets are clean, the air is not polluted, and even the water at the pier is crystal clear!
2. It's small and homey. It's like everything is walking distance or a short drive away. Both the airport and pier are only five to ten minute drive away wherever you are in the city. I love small walkable cities.
3. The nature is stunning! World class dive sites with beautiful coral reefs and marine life, mountains for hiking, waterfalls to chase, hot springs for relaxation, lakes up in the mountains if you want peace and quiet.
4. Accessible and centrally located. If you get bored with the plenty of activities available in Negros Oriental just hop on a boat and in less than an hour you'll be in the beautiful island of Siquijor with its stunning waterfalls and white sand beaches. Just an hour and a half ferry ride away is the action packed South Cebu! Apo
Jumping into Katibawasan Falls
So much fun here! I love the color of the water and it's also warm Island is even closer if swimming with sea turtles in colorful coral reefs if your thing. Or you can drive to Bacolod for just a couple of hours to experience the big city life.
5. There's plenty of excellent restaurants and cafes all over the city and their wifi is pretty fast. Note that they are not as cheap as you'd expect from a small city in the province. Prices are similar to Makati restaurants. There's a night market in Rizal Boulevard where lots of locals eat which I didn't get to try unfortunately. Only thing missing are vegan restaurant's. There is only one in the city. But given how fast vegan diet is spreading I think it will only be a matter of time before new ones pop up in the city.
6. Fitness. I saw lots of people jogging along Rizal Boulevard (like Manila bay but safe and clean). There you can also see groups doing Zumba and people playing frisbee, soccer, basketball, and volleyball at the beach. There's also plenty of gyms.
7. Safety. I never had a feeling of being unsafe walking alone at night. No need to worry about your phone getting
