I always talk about my experiences around the world and rarely about my hometown, but, this time, I would like to dedicate a couple of blogs to my favourite places nearby my city, Brescia. I was actually born in Rimini, but since the age of 8 I grew up in Brescia. Brescia is an industrial town in northern Italy, Lombardy region but has got some gorgeous places to see. I will talk about the lakes of this province that are of tremendous beauty, starting with Iseo Lake, I am particularly fond of Iseo, because, in this town, my family has got some relatives running a little restaurant, with a stunning view over the lake.

When I was a kid, I used to come here to spend the weekend with my family. Iseo Lake is a place of outstanding natural beauty, with its lush green mountains surrounding the lake.

Looking at the lake, it is possible to see three islands; the biggest one is called Monte Isola, which it has got a regular running lake ferry, the other two are St. Paul and Loreto which are privately owned.

Around the lake there are several towns; some are under the municipality of Brescia and some under the municipality of Bergamo.

I love this place, especially in summer, because of its numerous walking trails and stunning views over the lake, ideal for a picnic with friends or family.

Since I left Italy to travel around the world in 2006, I seldomly came here due to the short time I have when I go back to my hometown to visit the family, but I am strongly attached to this place, because it brings me back so many good memories of when I was a child, I love the tiny streets of the little towns dotting the lake, the historical places, the local food, the tiny shops and its great tranquillity.

In the recent years, unfortunately, it opened up a little bit to the tourism, so more tourists every year reach this place to spend the summer months. The main reason about the raise of tourism was due to The Floating Piers, an art installation by Christo, was open to the public at Lake Iseo for two weeks in June and July 2016.

Well, this is a little bit about my favourite place in my hometown Brescia, I hope that the people reading this blog, one day will have the chance to visit this splendid place.

In the next blog I will introduce my second favourite spot which is the bigger Garda Lake, see you next bye bye.

Beautiful Lombardy
Marco, so lovely to see a part of your world back home. As with most visitors, I only know Milan and the Lake Como area, so it's nice to get an idea of what the locals treasure :)
