Matetic winery
A view down the Rosario Valley So I don’t know if you have actually seen a lot of black and white films from the fifties, I have to be honest, I have not, but I do know there is a movie called 12 angry men about a jury (starring Henry Fonda apparently, and not Jimmy Stewart as I thought, I guess not every movie from the fifties was “a wonderful life”) angrily deliberating a verdict. The reason I use that as a title, is one of my work meetings this week was much the same, although it was more like 20 angry hombres, and one semi angry, although mostly retrained mujere (who by the way, is my boss) angrily deliberating a construction project. And the thing is, I have never worked in construction, and am now working on a $5 billion construction project as the “prime contract administrator” (ask me later what exactly it is I do, and by later, I mean like three or four months from now, so I have time to learn about it) but the makeup, let’s say, of this meeting, struck me. I was not sure I had ever been part of a meeting like that.
Well, it has
Wine tasting at Matetic
This Syrah goes well with nuggets been a few weeks since I’ve posted, and you can assume that a lot has happened, and I suppose it has, but I am working now, so how exciting can life be when you are working,..unless you want to hear about our new morning routine (the kids have been enjoying frozen blueberry waffles in the morning lately, a switch from peanut butter toast, but I digress). It was a long weekend this weekend, which was nice especially since last weekend was thanksgiving in Canada, and I had to sit there on Monday at work, thumbing through Instagram photos of everyone with family and friends and turkeys and gravy and stuffing and mashed potatoes with bits of bacon and oh my god I was so hungry....but at least I knew that I would be off today, and all you suckers in Canada would be working. So take that jerks!
Anyway, it was a great long weekend, and Steph’s mom had come from Vancouver to stay with us so the girls very very excited, as demonstrated by Maelle’s not leaving Marie’s arms for about the first five hours she was here. And it gave us an excuse to continue discovering the
city and its environs (and for me to escape to Parque Durazno for some mountain biking on the Saturday, which is apparently just some rich guy’s land who lets a bunch of volunteers manage it). And on the Sunday we did our first real excursion out of the city to do a wine tour...yes, wine touring with children! When Zoe asked whether we could go to a park, Steph’s answer was “yes we will go to a grape tree park” and Zoe was pretty, pretty excited...less excited about an hour into the drive, but both kids did well, and the winery we went to, Matetic, was incredibly beatiful...and even had some llamas on the property, so that was very exciting for the kids. I didn’t quite get the full experience of the tour, as I spent much of the time trying to keep Maelle from jumping off these high ledges into wine vats (oh tour guide, what was that wine we just tasted...oh just a second I have to keep my one year old from seriously injuring herself), again the scenery was amazing and the wine was also very very good...try the Pinot Noir. There was even a playground on
the property just outside the restaurant! And we also topped the weekend off today with a little K-pop and bi-bim-bap at a Korean festival...the 40th anniversary of Korean immigration to Chile, don’t you know...in a part of the city we had yet to see, so great to continue adventuring in and around.
But as with all long weekends, they come to an end, and I go back to work, usually incredibly disorganized as I scour the house for my work pass which was callously discarded on the Friday before (three days off, oh boy, won’t be needing this ever again!). So back at it tomorrow, and looking forward to another weekend so we can keep discovering this great city and country.
And I couldn’t help leaving a final picture of the ID cards from our girls...look at those smiles after spending 8 hours at the immigration office...a day to remember!
