Waking Up in Miami
Morning view from our hotel balcony in Miami - Biscayne Bay Today we got on the ship. The End.
Just kidding. It was uneventful, however. Breakfast on the hotel’s dime at a small restaurant next door was good. Check-in was easy in Miami and rather quick. The “problem” with today was our boarding time was early (11am) so we were onboard before 11:30am and they were refueling so the entire ship was non-smoking until almost 1:30pm/2pm. Kamie was not a happy camper. Actually, later we learned he could have been inside smoking in the casino but neither of us thought about the casino since it is the only indoor smoking area on the ship.
We had beautiful views of Miami leaving the port. Our ship actually turned-around in the small harbor to leave the port! Never seen a ship do that before. We got fantastic views of Star Island also known as Millionaire’s Row. Beautiful homes, beautiful yachts. Miami is incredibly welcoming to cruisers - a Miami-Dade police officer had someone pulled-over on the causeway and when the ship cruised by, he got on his blowhorn and shouted "Bon Voyage" WHILE he had someone pulled-over... then the Coast Guard guys started dancing and waving and being
a bit naughty and the crowd went WILD!! It was hilarious!! One of the things we noticed was how long we could see the coastline - for hours after we had already left Miami.
We didn’t do too much today.... gawked at Miami and the water a lot, mainly. I unpacked our suitcases and organized our room (and just realized I haven’t take any pictures of it yet).
We had a nice dinner in the main dining room with three other people tonight. Athena and Jake from Atlanta. He was high as a kite or strangely drunk....nice, interesting, and good-looking made the previous forgivable. She was kind and later we would see them around the ship and talk to them and she is a diamond of a person. He’s an engineer and she works at a bank. There was also Chris from Washington state… a talkative, funny guy who is originally from the Philippines. He loves food and came to dinner by himself because his fiancé was seasick in the room. Kamie had fried calamari and ribs. I had chicken and tiramisu. Nothing spectacular and nothing bad.
We came
back to our room and went to bed before 11pm. We are the in the very last cabin on the port side (left side) of the ship. The cabin “next” to ours is a corner suite with a wrap-around balcony. Apparently, a group of thugs from Chicago are the guys who can afford this room. They look like a million bucks but they were soooooo loud and sooooooo obnoxious out on their balcony today and in the hallway. One of the younger ones was literally jumping up on the rail to look over into our balcony to see us - something which could literally get him killed. Kamie was livid, just positive that we were going to have four or five obnoxious guys ruining our balcony time on this ship….. little did we know what would happen to the thugs while we were sleeping tonight….
