Murray and I used to play this board game called Carcassonne, well before we were married. I didn't realise it was a real medieval city in the South of France. We decided it was well worth a visit and it didn't disappoint. The Le boat canal boat trip we wanted to do, didn't actual get a view of Carcassonne, so we went down a day earlier to make sure we had time to look around. Our randomly booked apartment overlooked breathtaking Carcassonne. We were not disappointed. We loved looking around at night especially, exploring the nooks and crannies of the ramparts and finding new view points over the city. We drove down from Geneva, a 5 hour journey on the toll road. Mum, Dad, Daniel and Sarah went down by train, with 2 changes. We then met up at Trebes to get our canal boat for 3 days. As we had done Carcassonne, the pressure was off and we could go in the opposite direction along the Canal du Midi. Towards Homps which was suppose to be more beautiful. We enjoyed going through the locks, after the stress of the first few, we got into a good routine. We celebrated Dad's birthday in a lovely restaurant in Trebes. The highlight was when we moored next to an aqueduct for the night, we managed to find a stream nearby to swim in that was near another aqueduct. A very interesting trip, enjoyed by all.
