I know, a little corny, but it was my first time!
We got a 9:00 am start to our day on Friday. We were headed to Prince Edward Island for the weekend. After a 5-hour drive, we arrived at our accommodations. Our plans for the evening were to head in for a bite and then onto the Confederation Centre of the Arts to see a production of Jesus Christ Super Star. This was the first time I had seen a theater production and Gene’s 2nd of this particular one (first one 43 years ago). ?

We had appetizers and beer at the Hopyard. Nice apps & beer, but the music was a little loud. I guess I’m officially getting older. After dinner we were headed to the performance. It was really amazing. The singers/actors were excellent. We had really nice seats that were quite comfortable. After the show we headed back to our room. It was ½ drive and we were both pretty exhausted when we arrived back.

Confederation Bridge

Information from Confederation Bridge

The Confederation Bridge joins the eastern Canadian provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick, making travel throughout the Maritimes easy and convenient. The curved, 12.9 kilometre (8 mile) long bridge is the longest in the world crossing ice-covered water, and continues to endure as one of Canada’s top engineering achievements of the 20th century.

The decision to replace the existing ferry service with a fixed link followed a heated debate throughout the 1980’s. Farmers, fishermen, tourism operators, and residents of Prince Edward Island had sharply contrasting opinions about how year-round access to the mainland would affect their way of life and livelihood. Eventually, it was decided that the debate would be settled at the polls. The federal department of Public Works and Government Services selected its favourite bridge design out of several proposals from the private sector, and on January 18, 1988, Premier Joseph Ghiz asked Prince Edward Islanders to make the final decision in a plebiscite. At the polls, 59.4%!o(MISSING)f Islanders voted “Yes” to a fixed link.

After four years of construction using crews of more than five thousand local workers, the Confederation Bridge opened to traffic on May 31, 1997.

Saturday

We took off for a drive to see some of the PEI lighthouses. We first stop to see the PEI/New Brunswick car ferry.

Later in the afternoon we had dinner at a really nice restaurant called Prim Point Chowderhouse. Those of you who understand... Gene was VERY impressed!

Ye Old Salt
Old Salt, that is too FUNNY! Didn't expect too see you, LOL! I see Jean at Cape Bear lighthouse. Wow Point Prim Lighthouse is nice. Cape Bear looks to have nice red soil, even the rocks look red. Cool, Fox! I haven't seen one in years, like years. Glad you mention that one PEI crop, I wouldn't have know it was potatoes, don't think I have ever seen a potato crop. Country looks beautiful.
