Hi Everybody!
We got back to Hong Kong on Friday afternoon and went directly to the travel agency. We wanted to check on the status of our China tour. We found out that we could go over on Sunday, the 12th. We decided to wander around Hong Kong for a few hours. We went to Kowloon Park and found it a wonderful respite from the crowds and traffic. It has a nice Chinese garden, fountains, aviary, sport areas, etc. Next, we walked to St. John's Cathedral, the Far East's oldest Anglican church. The doors on the church were very tall and were similar to the doors on our house (which also came from a church.) On the spur of the moment, we decided to take a ferry to an outlying island, Macau. It was a great idea! The fast ferry trip only took one hour. We found a delightful city that was a mixture of the East and West. Many of the buildings showed Portuguese influence in their architecture. Right next door, you would find Chinese signs advertising businesses. Portugal discovered Macau when they were looking for trade routes. The Chinese were already there but allowed the Chinese to build a settlement. The deal was that the Portuguese had to help the Chinese get rid of pirates that were plaquing them. We walked to the center of Macau to Senado Square, a popular place on a Saturday afternoon. It was surrounded by pastel colored buildings, many with blue and white tile decorations. The sidewalks throughout the city were made of broken white tiles and had black mosaic designs of different varieties. Many tourists visit the island for the casinos. We stopped in one and tried the slots. We started out doing poorly because everything was written in Chinese. We were betting way too much money on one line. We finally figured out that the other side of the building had machines in English. We fared a little better there. Macau is the home to one of the Grand Prix Races.
Say a prayer for my daughter, Caroline. She is grieving for her boss, the CEO of WellStar, who was killed in a motorcycle accident on Friday afternoon. She loved this guy very much!
Take care,
Everette

hi
Everette, your fun continues. How wonderful. How sad for the CEO of Wellstar. That is just horrible. Auburn took a real beating from Georgia today. Be glad you're too far away to have seen the game. It's bad for us Auburn fans living in Georgia. Continue your wonderful journey. Sandy
