We’re up... our breakfast routine has become just like we live here. The house has become second nature, I know what switches control what lights. One item is lacking, not enough receptacles. Yea, we are constantly un-plugging one item and plugging in another. With all the iPhone, iPads and laptops, I’m thinking there needs to be some more duplex or quad receptacles.
While cleaning up after breakfast, Kirsten announces we’re going to Home Depot. She wants to visit the home building store in France. Why you ask?
As you know, most of the houses are small. Last summer, she had Luis tear out a closet and turn it into a half bath. So, while in France she wanted to check out small sinks for small bathrooms.
We pile into the car and of we go to Home Depot. Yes, it has small everything. Some bathroom sinks are smaller than an 8x11 sheet of paper. So next time you’re reading a letter, just think they make a sink this small.
After wandering through the store for 2-3 hrs, I was hungry. From here we decided to have lunch at one of Marks favorite restaurant. He’s the owner of
the house we’re staying in. How do I know this? when doing a house swap you prepare a notebook with restaurants and local attractions for your guests. For example, our book has Hotdog Heaven in Orlando as my favorite restaurant.
Lunch is great! We arrive at the restaurant and get a table overlooking the lake and canal. So scenic, I have a salad and a mixture of sautéed seafood served in a pan.
After lunch, we head toward Nantes to see the famous mechanical elephant. Yes, in Nantes there was a ship yard. It has been repurposed into an amusement park and an area with restaurants and bars. New condo’s going up all around the area and it’s right on the Loire river. Kirsten tells me she could live here, I remind her of Will, Mark and Caroline. Me... I’m pretty partial to Lori, Sam and Drew. Yep, your right she tells me.
Back to the elephant, so part of this area has this mechanical elephant you can ride ....it’s HUGE!
Now a side note, Jules Verne, the guy who wrote 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, Journey to the Center of Earth is from Nantes.
This area and elephant remind you of his books, Steam Punk, the Wild Wild West TV shows.
After watching the folks ride on the elephant and walking through the area, we head home.
Now that I have Apple CarPlay working, we are heading out of the city toward home.
We arrive at the house and I instantly realize I have no red wine. Out the door I go to the grocery store. Now they wave at me when I come in, he’s back. I go to the same check out guy every time, he’s grinning from ear to ear at me. Who is this crazy American? When he gives me my change I say Thank You in French, German, Italian and yes English. He’s still laughing as I walk out carrying my wine, cheese and bread.
After dinner we play cards until 11:30 pm it’s just now turning dark, I felt lucky, but Omi won all the games.
Good night
