Dinner in the Vineyard....
Kirsten nudges me gently, not tonight honey I’m tired. Wake up its time to take Bea to the airport. Bea who?
It’s 4:30 am and I’m using toothpicks under my eye lids to keep them open. Kirsten and I are driving Bea to the airport, remember she’s catching a flight today to Amsterdam to meet up with the Jarrett’s.
I load Bea’s suitcase into the car and enter our destination into the Navi. It’s a 30-minute drive, Kirsten, Bea and I are off to the airport.
I fell asleep last night thinking what is Bea’s plan “B”. I’m not asking, I look at Kirsten and she reads my mind. I get the “shut up” look, I return the “What” look, she returns the “If I have to” look. I sink into my seat and stay quiet.
We arrive at the airport, it reminds me of the Daytona Beach airport. Not that it has anything to do with Bea trying to get to Amsterdam, I just thought you might want to know. I unload Bea’s suitcase, we say our good byes. Off Bea goes to see if her stand by seat is available.
Oh, the joys of flying on Buddy Passes.
Kirsten and I park outside the airport and wait to hear from Bea hoping she gets on the flight. Forty-five minutes later we get the text. She on the flight, Halleluiah, Halleluiah our prayers are answered.
Kirsten and I are back in bed in less than 30 minutes and I’m asleep before my head hits the pillow.
Kirsten and I wake up, it’s after 9 am, we are dragging. However, Kirsten has an agenda for today. Omi is sitting on the patio with breakfast. We sit down, Omi ask did Bea get on ok, Kirsten says.. yes momma she did.
So, for today Kirsten has numerous vineyards to visit. Way too many to write about each one so I’ll only highlight the top three. The wine here is mostly white wine, made from the Muscadet grape, not the Muscat grape grown in Florida. I’ve tried that wine and it’s too sweet for me.
So, with a picnic lunch we’re off to fine French wine tasting rooms. We found, we tasted and move on to the next one.
Ok, back to the three wineries’, the first is
Chateau du Coing de St Fiacre. Did you get all that? Nice place, mother and daughter now operate it. We walked around in the vineyard and had a tasting, very good and the cellar was enjoyable.
Next, we move on to Chateau de l’aulnaye – Famille Lieubeau. Francis, a young man running the tasting room was one of the owner’s sons. His great grandfather was abandoned on the steps of the hospital in Nantes and the city adopted him and he grew up and started his own winery.
I have no idea if Francis’s story is true or not, but the wine is good. He was making all over Kirsten and Omi and they loved the attention. While sipping our wine, Kirsten found a brochure detailing a dinner in a local vineyard tonight. She asks Francis if he could make reservations for us. Why yes, the winery is just over the hill and he is my friend.
We have dinner reservations for tonight. If this sounds familiar, it should. Kirsten has found these multiple times in Italy.
We return to the house and freshen up, you know... you got to look as cute as you can.
We return to the vineyard and our evening was over the TOP;
Had drinks and appetizers at winery;
Walked up into vineyard
Watched a vineyard being planted. Yes, we stood in the middle of the field watching
We were seated and had more appetizers & wine
A different wine was served with each course
After five course’s and more than five different wines
We walked to the highest point of the vineyards with torches
Watched fireworks from the surrounding towns, celebrating Bastille Day
We returned to the cellar and had another round of wine
We finally made it to bed by 1:30 am
What a day, oh yea Bea made it to Amsterdam and connected with the Jarrett’s if anybody was worried.
Good night......
