8. Quelques jours à l'île du Prince-Édouard - A few days in Prince Edward Island

Jour 40 - Mardi, le 17 juillet 2018 - Eldon, Point Prim (Î.P.E)

Réveil à 06h00 ! Arrivée à North Sydney à 08h30 (heure de la N.É.) Fatiguée mais je me mets en route pour me rendre à Amherst, N.É. dans le but d'y dormir et de me diriger ensuite vers l'île du Prince-Édouard. Mais, il y a un changement en cours de route. Je me dirige finalement vers le traversier pour me rendre directement à l'île du Prince-Édouard, où je passerai les prochains jours. J'économise des kms., et surtout, je n'ai pas à conduire.

Je suis maintenant installée dans un petit motel à Eldon. Pas cher! Le propriétaire, en voyant mon T-shirt où c'est écrit que j'aime la photographie, me demande de faire quelques photos de son établissement. Il vient d'acheter et il veut monter sa page Web. Et bien! ;-)

Jour 41 - Mercredi, le 18 juillet 2018 - Charlottetown, Victoria, Summerside, Cap-Egmont, Cavendish

Ce matin, il pleut! Et il pleut presque toute la journée ! Je prends la route et me dirige vers Charlottetown. Après un petit tour de la ville, je fais le côté sud de la partie centrale de l'île. Je fais un court arrêt à Victoria, puis je fais un bout du côté ouest, en passant par Summerside, Abram Village, Cap-Egmont (maisons de bouteilles). etc. Puis, je me dirige vers Cavendish, partie nord de la partie centrale. En fait, l'île est divisée en quatre parties : la côte ouest, le centre (partie nord et partie sud) et enfin, la côte est. J'ai fait au moins 300 kms aujourd'hui. Je garde la côte est pour vendredi.

Arrivée à Cavendish, je trouve un motel où j'ai une chambre pour la nuit, et demain, je devrai déménager dans une autre chambre pour une deuxième nuit. Un peu plate mais c'est plein, et je dois m'adapter. Je sors souper au Cavendish Boardwalk. Lieu intéressant : restaurants et boutiques de toutes sortes. J'y retournerai sûrement demain. Je prévois aussi aller à la plage une partie de l'après-midi. Le soleil doit revenir.

Jour 42 - Jeudi, le 19 juillet 2018 - Cavendish

Après une attente sur le bord de la piscine, que ma nouvelle chambre soit prête, je me dirige à la plage de Cavendish, où je passe tout l'après-midi sous un beau soleil. Ça fait du bien de ne rien faire, de lire et de profiter du soleil.

De retour à ma chambre à 17h00, et je retourne au Boardwalk pour souper dans un petit resto de fruits de mer.

Jour 43 - Vendredi, le 20 juillet 2018 - Green Gables, Souris, Georgetown, Charlottetown

Ce matin, je prend le temps de visiter le site de la maison aux pignons verts, maison qui a inspiré le livre de Lucy Maud Montgomery. Je me promène sur le site, fait une marche dans les sentiers. Puis, je reprends la route vers la côte est de l'île. Je me rends jusqu'à Souris, où je fais un arrêt pour manger un excellent « lobster roll » au bord de la mer. J'en aurai mangé du homard cet été ! ;-) Il fait beau et chaud ! Puis, un détour vers Georgetown, et vers 16h30, je décide de retourner vers Charlottetown, où je m'arrête pour la nuit. Dans une chambre d'hôtel beaucoup trop chère, à mon goût, mais ça ne me tente pas de chercher. Et c'est une très belle chambre! ;-)

Jour 44 - Samedi, le 21 juillet 2018 - Pont de la Confédération, et Moncton, N.B.

Je quitte mon hôtel un peu avant 11h00 car il ne m'en reste pas beaucoup à faire pour me rendre à Moncton. Je prends la route et j'arrive au fameux Pont de la Confédération, que j'ai déjà traversé peu de temps après son ouverture, en 1997. « Avec ses 12,9 km, c'est le plus long pont au-dessus d'une étendue maritime prise par les glaces dans le monde.»

C'est assez impressionnant ! Ça prend près de 10 minutes pour traverser, et vers la fin, tu as hâte d'être au bout. Je n'ose pas imaginer un accident sur ce pont. L'enfer !

Après un arrêt pour dîner dans un casse-croûte, j'arrive chez ma cousine à 14h00. À 15h00, direction Shédiac pour s'acheter du homard pour le souper anniversaire de Rita. Mmm, un bon homard de 2 1/2 lbs pour moi. ;-)

Une belle soirée avec la cousine, son mari et la très jolie fille du couple.

Ceci est ma dernière entrée de mon blog pour ce voyage. Après Moncton, je vais rejoindre ma soeur à Beresford, au N.B. puis, je passerai les derniers jours de mes vacances au chalet de mon frère, au bord de la Baie des Chaleurs, à relaxer, et à visiter la famille et mes amies du coin. De retour chez moi le 1er août.

J'espère que vous avez aimé me lire. Pour moi, c'est un excellent résumé de mon voyage et si jamais la mémoire me faire défaut, je pourrai revenir lire le récit de mes aventures. ;-)

Pardonnez toutes les fautes de grammaire ou de syntaxe que j'ai pu faire dans mes écrits. Écrire « bilingue » n'est pas toujours évident.

Day 40 - Tuesday, June 17, 2018 - Eldon, Point Prim (P.E.I)

So, I wake up at 6:00am, and we arrive in North Sydney at 8:30am (N.S. time). I am tired but I want to drive as far as I can, maybe until Amherst, where I would spend the night before heading off to P.E.I. But, there is a change of plan on the way, and I decide to take the ferry directly to P.E.I., where I will spend the next few days. I save mileage, and most of all, I don't have to drive.

I am now settled in a small motel in Eldon, about 30 minutes from Charlottetown. Not expensive! The owner, when he sees my T-shirt that says I like photography, asks me if I can take a few pictures of his establishment. He just bought it and wants to build a webpage. What do you know! ;-)

Day 41 - Wednesday, July 18, 2018 - Charlottetown, Victoria, Summerside, Cap-Egmont, Cavendish

This morning, it's raining! And it rains most of the day! I get on the road and drive to Charlottetown. After driving around the town, I drive on the south coast of the center of the island. I stop a little while in Victoria, then I drive a part of the west coast, Summerside, Abram Village, Cap-Egmont (with its bottle houses), etc. Then, I drive toward Cavendish, north of the central part. In fact, the island is divided in four parts. The west coast, the center (north and south part) and the east coast. I did about 300 kms today. I will do the east coast on Friday.

When I arrive to Cavendish, I find a motel where I get a room for the night, and tomorrow, I will have move to another room for the second night. Not fun, but the motel is full and I have to adapt.

I go out for supper (dinner) at the Cavendish Boardwalk. Interesting place: a few restaurants and different littles boutiques. I will certainly return there tomorrow. I also want to go to the beach for part of the afternoon. The sun should be back.

Day 42 - Thursday, July 19, 2018 - Cavendish

After waiting for a little while, by the pool, that my new room is ready, I change and go to Cavendish beach, where I spent all afternoon in the sun. It's nice to not do anything and just read and enjoy the sun.

Back to my room at 5:00pm, and I return to the Boardwalk to have supper at a seafood type of restaurant.

Day 43 - Friday. July 20, 2018 - East coast of the island

This morning, I take the time to visit the site of Green Gables, where the house that inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery's book is situated. I walk around for about an hour, then, I get back on the road to travel part of the eastern coast. I drive up to Souris where I have a late lunch (another excellent lobster roll) sitting by the sea. I can say that I ate a lot of lobster this summer. ;-) It's warm and sunny. Then, I make a detour toward Georgetown, and around 4:30pm, I head back to Charlottetown, where I stop for the night. In a hotel room a bit too expensive to my taste, but I didn't feel like searching, It is a nice room! ;-)

Day 44 - Saturday, July 21, 2018 - Confederation Bridge, and Moncton, N.B.

I leave the hotel a bit before 11:00 because I'm not a hurry, not a lot of driving to reach Moncton. So, I drive to the Confederation Bridge, that I crossed once when it first opened in 1997. With its 12,9 km, it's the longest bridge in the world, build over waters that freeze in winter.

It's quite impressive! It takes about 10 minutes to cross and you're kind of glad when you reach the end. I wouldn't want to imagine having an accident on this bridge. It'd be hell! I stop at the Cape Jourimain Nature Centre where you can take beautiful pictures of the bridge.

After stopping for lunch at a diner, I arrive at my cousin's house around 2:00. At 3:00, we go to Shediac to get some lobster for Rita's birthday supper. Mmm, a nice 2 1/2lbs lobster for me. ;-)

I spend a nice evening with my cousin, her husband and their lovely daughter. .

This is the last entry to this blog. After Moncton, I will go see my sister in Beresford, then I will spend the last days of my vacation at my brother's cottage on the Baie des Chaleurs. I will relax, and visit family and friends. Back home on August 1st.

I hope that you enjoyed reading my blog. For me, it's an excellent summary of my trip and if and when my memory falters, I can always come back and read about my adventures. ;-)

Please excuse all the grammar and syntax errors that I must have made. It's not that easy writing "bilingual". ;-)
