Again, another great night of sleep. Had I known this vacation would be this restful, I’d been here earlier. Kirsten and Omi are up showered and dressed before me. I’m moving as fast as I can through the bathroom knowing Kirsten has the car keys this morning.
We are out of the hotel, loaded into the car and looking for a café for our first French breakfast.
Kirsten finds a cute café close to the cathedral. We’re having coffee with croissants sitting on a bench in the cathedral courtyard listening to the bells.
Once were done, we go into the cathedral for our blessings.
Now this cathedral was built for one purpose. And you ask why did they built this cathedral? Because someone brought the head of John the Baptist back from the crusades. I can just imagine the guy bringing John’s head back, his wife meets him at the door... you’re not bringing that into my house. Ok honey, I’ll build a cathedral in the back yard. Thus, was the beginning of the Amiens Cathedral.
Now as a good Baptist, I can’t end this blog without mentioning that John is a card-carrying member of the
Southern Baptist Convention, Thus his name, John the Baptist.
Back into the car and we’re off down the road toward Nantes. So, settle in for another boring 4 hours.
Wake-up we’re here, well not exactly. We arrive at the house, Kirsten calls our contact, she says were early. LOL, she’s at work and can’t meet us until 6 pm.
So, we have 2 hours to burn, what to do? I know, we’ll find a bar and watch the World Cup. France is playing Uruguay. We have friends back in Winter Haven from Uruguay, however while sitting in middle of a bar in the middle of France, surrounded by French kids and adults we decided to supported France. VIVA LA FRANCE, LOL.
A few beers, snacks and another few beers later France wins, and everyone is dancing in the street. Yes, they were, including me.
We climb back into the car and are back at the house when our house greeters pull in and welcome us. We are given the keys and shown around the house and told how to operate the important stuff, coffee maker, TV, Stove, Grill and a bunch of other stuff.
We then are instructed on how to care for the cat, WHAT! There’s a #$@& CAT HERE. Kirsten failed to mention this small detail. I don’t do cats.
Lori and Drew are now laughing so hard right now they are falling down. Do I know my kids...
In addition to the cat, we have a donkey and one sheep. Kirsten is instructed on what to do, I’m standing here with my What The.... look on my face.
I overhear Kirsten telling the lady; don’t worry Stevie is from Kentucky and he just loves animals.... as they walk past me.
I unload the car and put our stuff in our rooms. Kirsten and Omi are busy preparing dinner while I open a bottle of wine.
We settle in for our first night in our first house swap, what could go wrong......
Bonne Nuit
