Crossing the Arctic Circle

First thing this morning we went for a walk to a beautiful little waterfall I had found. Bernie turned back and I went on. Terrain was definite walking boot territory and I was in trainers! Jeffers and I trekked steeply up and down crossing several suspension bridges over waterfalls and rapids. They all instructed only one oerson to cross at a time. I reasoned thatJeffers ( who I carried) and I were not heavier than many people. Eventually we reached the mountain farm we were heading for. What a bleak place that must have been in the winter. We walked on to another farm and another two suspension bridges before running the 3k downhill back to Bernie.
We then drove to the Arctic Circle. There is a big centre at the crossing point with a restaurant and shop selling tat so we bought some postcards and a mug. I was tempted to have a reindeer burger but Bernie preferred to stick to bread and cheesr in the van so Rudolph was spared. I thought it would be good to have a run at the circle so headed across the open mountainside. It was blowing a gale and there was snow over a lot of the ground so it was interesting running.
After lunch we walked around looking at the monuments that were there. One was to unknown numbers of Yugoslav POWs who were killed/ died constructing the railway near the arctic circle. We have seen several memorials and graveyards to soviet and other POWs. One forgets how badly Germany and its slave labour organisation treated eastern front prisoners.
Later we dropped down to the next village 25 miles away as we needed milk. We are parked up hoping for a sunny night in a lovely spot by a river.
Furthest North we think we are going. 4, 400 miles in at 66.81446N 15.38733E. Tomorrow we start heading back.
