Another driving day today and another gorgeous summery one too.

Woken by delightful birdsong on our campsite which says "ornothologists delight" in its brochure so no surprise to hear Blackcaps singing in the trees all round. Away in good time again and we set off heading pretty well due East.

Bob had warned me there would be more dual carriageway than country roads today and we started on the N4 but didn't stay long as a big stretch was closed so we had to detour along country roads after all. We were heading basically for Strasbourg and so were quite a lot of other people too.

Bob had managed to find a stretch of really scenic route up through the forest into Alsace and through some lovely little villages with the pretty colourful buildings typical to this region. Being Sunday there were no trucks on the road but there were lots and lots of motorbikes. Think we must have driven a bikers' favourite route.

Eventually we had to take the main road to get us past Strasbourg and the traffic was even heavier. We turned off to head for the German border via a stretch of motorway and fortunately spotted that it was stationary before Bob took the turn to it. Fortunately also there was an alternative route and I happened to have the German road map on my knee so we managed to take it in time. Lovely countryside driving towards and through some of the Black Mountains. Then we arrived at our campsite Camping Schuttehof at Horb am Neckar.

Have to say we really had an excellent route today with such a good mixture of mountain roads, dual carriageways, countryside, fields, forests, villages.

Delighted to discover the pool is open though Acsi book says it is not yet open for the summer and also really pleased to find that this is a very pleasant site indeed. Mainly statics with limited touring pitches, especialy hard standings for motorhomes but we have a pitch one minute from the superb sanitaires, there are birds singing away all round and that is pretty well all the noise we can hear though the site is quite big and busy. Had a nice swim, a read in the sun and decided to change to Plan C. This after checking the weather forecast and finding that this lovely sunshine is due to turn into several days of quite a lot of thunderstorms. Still good here tomorrow so we will stay and use the scooter to visit the town and maybe further afield as well. Then we will move to Bavaria to our planned lakeside site on Tuesday instead.
