Berlin: Tegel

People had recommended taking a canal boat trip while in Berlin, which is not something that had occurred to us. In the morning we mentioned this to our genial Turkish host at the breakfast spot where we met up with Tom every morning. (Though we'd stayed in the same apartment together in Prague, we couldn't find a 2-bedroom airbnb in Berlin that we could afford, so we had booked 2 spots fairly close to each other.) "Tegel!" insisted our host. ""Very beautiful!" We found it on the map, a short train ride north of where we were. "Why not?" we thought, assuming one canal ride was about the same as any other, but we had no idea it would be such a pleasant, non-urban (and non-canal) outing. As it was unseasonably hot for May in Berlin--32 degrees C--being on the water was a good change from pounding the city pavement.



It was also the last day of our 9 days travelling together in Prague and Berlin. Tom's facility with languages and his City Mapper app had helped us find our way many times, and we'd enjoyed his lively company. He flew back to London and we moved on by train to Hannover, Germany.
