Qingyan Ancient Town,is one of the most famous historical and cultural towns in Guizhou Province, it is situated 15 kilometers away from my school, wich is in Huaxi district, in the southern part of Guiyang city.
The beautiful ancient town has got an area of over 700 acres and was originally built in 1378, during the Ming dynasty period (1368 - 1644).
Nowadays Qingyan ancient town has become a great tourist attraction, especially during the weekend.
It took me about one hour and a half to reach Qingyan town due to the traffic jam and crashes that usually happen here, but slowly slowly I safely arrived to my destination.
The bus just left me on the main road and to get to the ancient town I had to walk for about one more kilometer.
At first sight I did not like it that much because within the town you can see even little arcades crowded with kids of different age having fun there. For certain stretches along the fortified city I had to walk at a snail's pace just to give you the idea of how crowded the place was.
When I climbed the wall
in Qinyan, it was a bit like walking on the Great Wall with strenuous uphills, steep downhills and from the top I could see the entire walled city that divided Qingyan town from the other neighboring towns.
When I was walking inside the town, I was marvelled at the ancient architecture, there were monasteries, temples, courtyards and palaces. All of them were constructed by the great architects of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and were really worth a visit. I had a walk in the ancient business streets to admire the elegant wooden houses, beautiful tea shops, antiques shops, restaurants, the famous local snacks, such as Qingyan tofu and other spicy delicacy of the region.
I also liked the courtesy of the local people, it happened that when I was standing in front of a little restaurant and trying to understand the characters written on the menu, one local woman invited me in, she spoke a bit of english and helped me in choosing some of their local delicacies like: the spicy Tofu, the delicious Tudou balls, Miantiao and my favourite dumplings.
While eating, I was chatting with this person, she was there with her husband and
some other relatives, even though I could not speak their language they were extremely kind wth me and the food was very good.
I arrived late in the afternoon and soon I had to leave, so I did not have enough time to visit the other parts of the town but I am pleased to have discovered such a nice place nearby my school, surely I will be back again but the next time I will go there during the week because the crowd of the weekend does not allow you to explore the town well.
This was my first place visited in Guizhou province, since I got here, and the impression I had of this province was certainly positive especially for their welcoming people.
I think I will stop here for a very long time, I began to like this place...
