Prague: City of the Arts

Prague is awash with galleries, museums, live music and cultural events. We went to two concerts of classical music in 2 nights, the first in a castle, the second in a church. In the castle it was a string quartet and, to Phil's delight, he witnessed all of Vivaldi's Four Seasons played by a virtuoso violinist, whose speed of fingering and bowing was almost beyond belief. In the second it was an organ concert, with also a soprano and a violinist. The room trembled with the encompassing sounds.

I forgot to take my camera the day we walked around the Old City. Sorry.

We enjoy an end of day beer on a float in the river.
Tom has been very helpful with his German and bits of Czech language as we've navigated Prague. He's also alerted me to 2 spelling mistakes in my last blog. It's the Vltava River, not the Vitava. Even though I looked it up when I was writing the blog, I didn't read the letters correctly. And it's the Moldau River, not the Moldeau.

Drinks were on this middle floatie.
You may remember the two boats from the last blog: the restaurant and the botel.

A very impressive pulpit
Wouldn't someone speaking from this grand station appear to speak with authority?

Several of these structures encircled the nave.
They looked like confessionals, but they had no kneelers, curtains or doors.

Gold
Though much of the cathedral was blackened with pollution, this gold window certainly stood out in testament to the wealth of the church there.

Beautiful mosaics above the side entrance.
The amount of work put into such grand buildings is just staggering.

Lunch at the Castle Cafe.
There were many spots to eat and buy, including a shop devoted entirely to Christmas decorations.

Gargoyles are drain pipes.
If you can make out these monsters with their mouths wide open, they're not facing off in aggression toward each other, as I previously wondered. They're disgorging run-off from the roof. Best to steer clear of them from below when it's been raining.

Yes, we loved Prague too. And doubtless went to a concert in the same church you did; it certainly looks familiar! M xx
