The "Where -Am-I?" Wollomi: Brno, Czech Republic

It's always a surprise and thrill to run into a friend from home when in a faraway place. When we came upon this young Wollomi Pine at the university botanical gardens in Brno, that's how I felt. For those of you who don't know, the Wollomi is a recently discovered species of tree, found just in a tiny cluster a few years ago in a remote part of the Blue Mountains of Australia, and it is now being cultivated by eager botonists around the world.

Dear Martha Kaiser, remember our days of doing horticulture together in college? I rarely enter a greenhouse without recalling the sweet little old (English?) lady who used to search the undergrowth in our greenhouse for a fallen ponderosa lemon with which to make her lemon curd.

No matter where Phil and I go, we usually visit the botanic gardens.
