Coffin Bay

Howdy once again.

Lets see first stop was Whyalla for lunch at a rest stop. Then straight after we arrived into town with the main industry with a major fire in one of their factories. Local emergency crews soon had it contained. We moved on after looking around the township. Next town was Cowell where we did some laundry and a spot of fishing off the pier. Then found a shop that sells Jade to get directions to the source. He was happy to direct us as apparently there is still plenty of low grade material still around. I'd like to think that I found some second rate Jade, aspretty well all the quality material has been picked clean long ago. I went back to the Jade seller and he confirmed that I had found Jade. That night we stayed for a meal at the local so Ken could watch Melbourne play Richmond. I don't think he was too happy with the results. Anzac day saw us in a great township of Tumby Bay. It reminded me a lot like Rye back when I was at Primary School. We fished from the pier again. Ken caught a Blue Swimmer Crab only to loose it just before it reached the pier. From here to Port Lincoln was only a short drive. Had lunch at a lookout overlooking the town with 360deg. views. Shark diving was a bit too expensive for this trip. So we passed that up and found a campsite next to a swamp. Quite a few birds to be seen. Next morning we drove to Coffin Bay. The town itself is not much to write about, but the drive around the N.P. was very scenic. With a few Bays and coves to explore. Not expecting much from the camping grounds I was surprised at what we found. So decided to stay a couple of days. Yangie Bay is a breeding ground for little fish and crabs. Also a type of squid that only grows about 7cm. The animals and birds virtually eat from your hands. They always seem to be under your feet. And the Sunrises were great too.

We filled up with diesel at Elliston and Ken thought he was in the twilight zone. He didn't think much of the servo or what was in it. Venus Bay was another small fishing village with some great cliffs guarding the entrance to the Bay. Next stop was Streaky Bay which was a little bit bigger and more enticing to stay for awhile. We moved on and camped in a rest area. Today we tried our luck once again at fishing at Smokey Bay. Still no fish only a lot of small fish nibbling our bait off almost as soon as it hit the water. Much the same at Ceduna. There is no Maccas here only a Hungry Jacks. And Ken says the Burgers are better. Catch up with you all in Esperance.

Great photos glad you popped into Cowell not much there but the local are very helpful when you get to know them I am pleased you had a fosick for Jade hope you didn’t run into any snakes we all stayed in the other caravan park before you get into the town up on the hill it’s litera in the bush lovely big sites but lots of snakes your photo of coffin bay was amazing best you took it with your mobile now it’s dried out as you might of forgotten to put your memory card in your camera & I hope you haven’t lost anymore esssntional parts teeth are bad enough easily done though see I have read your blog keep the photos coming safe travels Marsha
