Early Saturday morning the group met up to fly from Newcastle Airport to Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. It was tough for the group getting up before 6am on a Saturday morning.
The flight was quick and relatively peaceful to Amsterdam, with the exception of a large group celebrating a milestone birthday. Each one of the members investigated the wine available and each one asked for ice even though the hostess had already explained to the others sat next to them that there were none. We might have even got the top of our heads in one of their ‘selfies’ but luckily we were far enough back from one of the members who had to use the sick bag.
After landing at Schiphol Airport it was a quick pass through security and what seemed like a 5 mile walk to the next waiting area even with the use of travelators. When we finally got to the waiting area we could see the plane roll in and the passengers starting to get off. As the workers began sorting the luggage and the fuel, Brian pointed out one of the women who had just gotten off the plane just lit a cigarette
less than two metres away from the plane that we would shortly be boarding. Luckily this did not hinder our journey and soon we were off to Stuttgart.
We soon landed in Stuttgart Airport and our luggage put some strain on the mini buses suspension as we set off to Tübingen. The first thing I noticed was the open space of the area and the style of the modern and more traditional buildings. All the colours of the buildings were a palette of white, cream and tones of orange. There were areas of traditional and modern types of homes sitting peacefully together complimenting each other with their similarities while being very different. As well as this there are many fields and open spaces for leisure and farming. The other spaces were filled with a dense amount of trees and it is clear that the forests have a large amount of evergreen species as they stood tall amongst the deciduous trees with their remaining orange leaves.
After driving past the colourful traditional town houses of Tübingen, we arrived at the hotel and checked into our rooms. They are clean, spacious, comfy and have some lovely traditional style houses to look out on.
We met our German host Stephan not long after arriving and he took us on a brief tour of the centre before we all got soaked in the rain. It was very kind of him to come and talk to us and give us a tour on his Saturday off. The buildings in the centre are so old that many are warped and seem to be leaning over and they are all connected with the exception of a few alleys. Everyone’s first impressions have been of awe for the beauty of the place and we all agree that it feels like home. We are really excited to be able to explore the town more and get involved in the project work and in between try lots of the local food.

Tübingen looks great. . . .might add it to my holiday destination list
Tubingen looks great, certainly very different to what I expected and far from what I envisaged. Take plenty of photos folks, this blog is really good.
