Rolled into Nashville yesterday afternoon. Walked around the downtown area...if you like loud live country music coming from every direction, bars, and interesting people watching, this place is for you! After a cocktail at The Stage rooftop bar, we jumped back in the Subie and headed to Walmart. Didn't mention before, but Kathy has caught a head cold ? so we picked up some Puffs with Vicks, NyQuil, and eucalyptus/mint Epson salts to hopefully solve the new tent ⛺️ smell issue. Neither one of us like strong smells, but this is something we use to soak in the tub at home and it always makes us and the house smell so good ?
We arrived at our campsite, Hillman Ferry, ~5:30pm. The Camp hosts we spoke with on the phone before we arrived were so nice. They were both intrigued by our rooftop tent, so they offered to deliver our firewood so they could see it ? They picked out the perfect spot for us to camp for the night right on the Kentucky Lake with a spectacular view of the sunset. Once again we setup Snug Haven in no time and sat down to relax and take in the
amazing sunset. A couple of happy campers, Alice and Russell, came by to check out our tent too! Great couple who have been coming here since the early 80's. They told us all about the campground, skunks, etc.
I started getting dinner together while Karen was busy turning Snug Haven into Spa Haven with our eucalyptus/mint Epson salts. I had planned on grilling steaks that we brought from home but they were still frozen solid in our cooler. So, instead we had ? and shrimp boil leftovers (mom, dad, Val - this was from our Eclipse adventure in August). Made a rip roaring ? and gazed at the stars. All of a sudden, here comes a white animal walking right through our camp site and under our picnic table. I said, 'it's a skunk!' Karen says, 'no, it's a possum!' I said 'it has black stripes and it looks like a skunk.' Our happy campers, Alice and Russell, had told us earlier to use flashlights or lanterns and ignore them. They will leave you alone if you leave them alone - do not provoke them, especially if you have to go to the bathroom at night. Karen said, 'it
does not look like Pepe Le Pew' and starts shooing it...I said 'stop it - let it be and get over here!' Pepe continued to explore, looked up at Snug Haven like 'really?' and carried on its way.
Tired after our sleepless night before, we climbed into our new and improved Spa Haven around 9pm after both taking some NyQuil. Wow - talk about clearing your sinuses. Not only did it smell like heaven, the stars were like heaven. We were both sound asleep in minutes. Of course, I drink lots of water and I wake up and have to pee...remembering the skunk and what we had learned from our happy campers, I decided it was best to resort to plan b, mason jar. I climbed down and got in position and began, and fell over ?my rear end right on the ground. Karen hears me and yells, 'are you ok? Is Pepe back?' Thankfully we brought some wipes with us...so I cleaned myself up and got back up and in Spa Haven. Both of us laughed some more and then quickly fell back to ?
We woke up feeling rested after a great night sleep and looked out the window to our beautiful view of mist on the lake. I started boiling water for hot cocoa and heating up some homemade veggie soup. Karen was getting us organized and looked at her phone...it was 8:30am - we slept for 11 hours ? Enjoyed a nice breakfast and explored the campsite...saw and spoke with our Happy Campers Alice and Russell - exchanged contact info and shared our blog so they can follow us on our journey.
Packed up and saw a bald eagle and 2 ospreys over the lake...plenty of squirrels - they talk and are quite active. This was a great campground and beautiful area - favorite so far!
We are now enroute to Springfield MO - birthplace of Route 66. Crossed over the Mississippi River...yes Val, mom, and dad, we sang 'Mississippi' and reminisced about Grandma Madden ? My Grandma Madden always sat between me and my sister Val on road trips to keep us from fighting and provided nonstop entertainment singing songs and playing games with us. Fond memories...
