...Preparing to leave Elodie
Chiel made a terrible mistake today - he said the weather was going to be perfect but cold. He was wrong - it was perfect and warm!! The ride was also extremely enjoyable. 50km of tracks alongside the Canal de St Quentin and across very gently undulating countryside. You will note from my pictures that the land usage has swung from crops to livestock. Henry did superbly today when he took us into Cambrai for morning tea. Some of our group (who should remain nameless, shouldn't they Jenny and Kerrie?) had what the French describe as cappuccinos with lashings of whipped cream on top. Divine!! (so I'm told :-) )

After Cambrai, we continued on the canal tow paths for some time before stopping for lunch near a lock. By this time, the sun was out and it was a balmy 17 or 18C. More farmland, more little villages and our eventual arrival at Elodie waiting for us at Trith-Saint-Leger. We re-embarked and then headed down river to Valenciennes. Arrival there still gave us plenty of time for showers and a walk around town with Henry pointing out some of the highlights of the rejuvenation of the town after the

collapse of the coal and steel industries.

A (brief) stop at a bar capped off a very relaxing day before heading back to Elodie for yet another delicious dinner. Jantien is certainly a marvelous chef - tonight's pannecotta was to die for.

Tomorrow we leave France and enter Belgium. There is always something interesting to look forward to on this trip. (Belgian chocolate (which Pru gave us a taste of tonight) and Beer and no hills!!).

Great blog! It arrives in my inbox each morning so I can read over breakfast, allowing me to compare my eggs on toast to your culinary experiences. The bike riding is a good excuse for eating as much of the local food as possible!
