We were kicked off our train at the Italian border due to a train worker strike in France. The Cannes Festival was starting the next day and the rail workers obviously took advantage of the pressure of the situation to go on strike for a day. The inconvenience meant we arrived very late with no where to stay and every taxi charging ridiculously high rates (if you could find one) to take you anywhere. I'm not sure if this negative start tainted our opinion of this city but overall we could have skipped Nice. The old city was charming and we had a nice meal in that area and enjoyed walking around the old Chateau on the hill overlooking the old city.
