Traveling to Guatemala for 3 days. Is it better to stick to the north (Tikal and surrounding areas) or south (Antigua/Lake Atitlan)?
hi,
i'm headed to Guatemala for a short 3-day excursion. due to the length of the trip, i don't think i can backpack all throughout Guatemala. i'm interested in checking out the north: Tikal, Agua Caliente, Livingston and/or Rio Dulce. then again, i've heard that Antigua, Lake Atitlan and the Pacaya Volcano in the south were also a "must see". i'm short on time and really want to enjoy the trip. any suggestions?
thanks,
MMG
Reply to this If you've only got three days, I would recommend Antigua and Lake Atitlan. Tikal is really amazing and well worth a visit, but to get from there to Rio Dulce / Livingston is a quite a long bus trip (4/5 hours from memoy). Plus you will fly into Guat. City which is only about 40mins from Antigua, and to get to Tikal you'll need another flight (or take a day out for the bus trip), so in the short time you have I think you can experience more in Antigua / Atitlan. In Antigua there is lots to see, and the distance to Atitlan is not as far. And then go back and visit Tikal and more, because Guatemala is wonderful!
