Hello Dave 😊

I loved Equador. Be sure to include it in your plan. 😊 People are fun loving and the scenery from the bus windows when I was getting from one town to another was georgous.

I'd say Machu Picchu and Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia would have to make the list as well! And I'd second Mel about Ecuador - really amazing country. Reply to this

Galapagos would be the obvious one if you can afford it. Galapagos!!!!! Other than that, Cuenca is a gorgeous colonial city, Laguna Quilotoa is amazing to visit Here comes the sun!. If you have the time then the trip between La Paz and Cusco can be done by bus to include Lake Titicaca Walking on water! which is also great fun. Whatever you do you're bound to have a great time - there's so much to do. Reply to this

Hi Dave,

I’ve recently know about a wonderful trip, In Puno- Peru. This trip is about making a tour around the Lake Titicaca via bus and cruise. You can start your trip doing various activities in Puno as: The Island Uros Island, which hosts a large number of pre-Incan people who live on 42 self-fashioned floating man-made islets. The Uros use the totora plant to make boats (balsas mats) of bundled dried reeds as well as to make the islands themselves. Also you can visit the Sillustani ruins located 34 km northwest of the city of Puno, on the shores of Lake Umayo. This archaeological complex was a cemetery of Culture Kolla. Established by a group of stone towers called "Chullpas" whose height varies from 10 to 13 meters. Aymara buried where their high priests.
After this visit, you can tour the lake by a great cruise. The activities start sailing to Sun Island, the legendary birth place of the Inca Empire. Visit the Inca Garden, steps and fountain then the Inti Wata Cultural Complex including the Ekako Underground Museum, the traditional medicine and the Titikaka Reed Shipbuilders display centers, visitors have the opportunity to interact with one of the most unspoiled indigenous Titikaka villages through an innovative program organized with the local community sharing rituals, ceremonies, folkloric demonstrations, etc.
You can finally complete the journey and return to Puno, or continue traveling to Bolivia where you will still experiencing the wonders of the Andes.
It is amazing to know so many wonderful places, cultural heritage innate from our past before, where each one lives an unforgettable experience.

Hey! let's visit The Titicaca Lake!!!

For more information about this place, do not hesitate to e-mail me!!!

Good Luck!!!

We've been in South America since Sept 2007. Here are 10 of my favourites in no particular order

1. Cusco & Machu Picchu
2. Lake Titicaca (Bolivian side is better than Peruvian, in my opinion)
3. El Chalten, Patagonia
4. Easter Island
5. Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia
6. Quebrada de Humahuaca, Argentina
7. El Bolson, Argentina
8. Vilcabamba, Ecuador
9. Torres del Paine, Chile
10. San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

You won't see all that in 5 weeks!! Enjoy your trip,

Set aside at least a week for the Amazon. From Cuzco you can get a package deal -- including flight -- into the Puerto Maldonado/Manu area. Of you can fly into one of the major Amazon cites to start -- Iquitos, Manaus or Belem. The best resource for picking the part of the Amazon you might want to go to is the Bradt guidebook, The Amazon -- their 3rd edition was published a few months ago.

Frankly, for a five week trip I would pick a small part of the continent -- otherwise it will be very easy to spend a quarter of your time in planes, airports, and getting to and from airports. Pick the one place you think is the major 'must' -- maybe Rio, maybe Salvador, maybe Cuzco/Machu Picchu and plan from there. The distances are vast. And what are your main priorities? Great tropical beaches? If so, the northeast coast of Brazil is heaven. Remnants of indigenous civilizations? Obviously Cuzco/Machu Picchu. Well-preserved colonial era towns? I would pick Ouro Preto and Parati -- both easy to fit in with a trip centering on Rio de Janeiro. Nature? The Amazon and/or the Pantanal, but it would be diffiuclt to do both on one trip.

Boa Viagem,
KST

hiking in the mountains around cuzco is amazing, yet i saw no other travelers up there when i was there, definately have to go to machu picchu, try an alternative route then the inca trail then you will have more privacy and traquility, its also cleaner, i found this out because i didnt book in advance and could not book the inca trail, last time i checked you had to almost book a year in advance to get with a legit touring copany Reply to this
