I am taking off on April 24th and arriving April 25th in Sydney!! Woohoo!! Luckily my dad has friends in Sydney and I will be staying with them untill i find a flat to rent and a job. If anyone else here has done the same as me then im just wondering how did you go about getting a flat, job and bank account and is this all relatively easy? Im just a little nervous and any help would be greatly apreciated!! I hope to work and save some money and with this money intend to travel Oz though im not sure where yet as I have no idea how many funds i will raise, if any!, and how much trips cost and such. Im also hoping to meet my boyfriend out in Oz. He is Polish and so cannot work and we are trying to get him a 12 month touring visa. Any help would be greatley appreciated!! Thanks Guys!!! Hello Hannah 😊

I moved this to this forum because this is where those giving information about Australia will likely be looking.

There is a good travellers place on George Street in Sydney called The Travellers Contact Point made solely for new arrivals. http://www.travellers.com.au/

They give a free half hour presentation each week day giving advice in regards to all 3 topics you mentioned. They offer a mail box (quite expensive but it lasts the whole year and they can redirect mail for you), a quick and easy way to set up a bank account (do this as soon as possible for ID reasons), help you apply for your tax file number (essential for working) and have loads of adverts for flats and jobs.

I found it very difficult to get a job when I first arrived but that was in January. I've done a few temping jobs since though and been offered loads of interviews. It was a bad time to arrive. http://www.gumtree.com.au is a good website for short term accommodation for travellers and you could get a flat pretty quickly.

Hope this helps.
