A free version is available - and this is the best photo stitching software I've yet to use.
I bumped into Autostitch an hour or so ago - and it's one handy piece of software for creating panoramas - and the easiest I've yet to use;
1: Select the group of photos that should be capable of being joined.
2: The software runs and produces a pano.jpg in the directory of the photos.
Try keeping the initial creation settings small eg. 1400 at 75%!a(MISSING)nd review the result. Then edit the options - set for whatever level you like - I choose 5000 width at 90%!q(MISSING)uality and let it run. I then cropped and sharpened - and you can see the results above.

Reply to this This shot was originally 6 pictures - though had I actually set them up for use as panoramas (and stitching) - I think 4 would have been enough.
Basically - the image above was stitched from images that I never intended for use as a panorama - and just happened to be close enough for the stitching to work.

Incidentally is there a way to post photos on the forum if they're just on my hard drive. (ie not in a blog or on another website). I kinda want to show off my cool Sydney Harbour bridge shot!!!
Do stitches work better when there are more photos in a given width or does it not matter so long as they overlap?

I'm still experimenting with the software so just try a few different versions out.

Well - nope - you'll have to upload somehow or where - best suggestion is to just make a blog entry for it - and upload them...

Unfortunately, I noticed that Autostitch isn't Mac compatible. Does anyone have any tips on a good photo-stitching program for Mac? (The only photo software I have on my MacBook is iPhoto; I don't even have Photoshop.)

Reply to this I've been impressed with the PhotoMerge that is part of PhotoShop. It's done a really good job so far with all of my panos...seams are nearly impossible to detect & auto-adjustments of exposure/color/etc. are spot on. Way better than the previous package I had been using.
Reply to this I've downloaded AUTOSTITCH and it's an incredibly easy and simple program to use. The results are better than COREL and ADOBE (both of which I have). The merging of the photos seems immeasurably more accurate than those top-of-the-range panoramas.
All my family and friends have been put on to AUTOSTITCH. If you don't have it, get it!!
The only thing to watch out for is set the quality settings under the options to 75%!a(MISSING)s opposed to the default 25%! (MISSING) It will take longer to weave the photos together but the detail at 75%!((MISSING)compared with 25%!)(MISSING) is excellent.

I myself use PTGui, but that is not free, of course.
