I'm probably going to Africa in a month or two, and I've heard that for the area I'll be visiting (Benin,Togo etc) it's compulsory for travellers to have a Yellow Fever vaccination. As this is a live vaccine, people often have reactions to it and it's a bit dangerous... so has anyone had it? did you react to it at all? Reply to this

I had the yellow fever vaccine in February. It was required for my trip to Tanzania. I had no reaction to it except for a bit of soreness at the injection site. My step-daughter who was traveling with me did feel a bit ill for 2 days. However, nobody asked to see our shot records during our trip. Reply to this

I also had my shot in February and felt a bit average a couple of days later - and also had minor soreness at the injection site. However, I did fall quite sick about 8 days after the shot and had a week off work, but not sure if that was related to the Yellow Fellow vaccine or something else. Reply to this

The cost depends on the country, but the vaccine becomes effective 10 days after inoculation, and it provides protection for 10 years. Reply to this

I found that our local health department had the cheapest prices...It cost me $95.00 for my yellow fever shot. Reply to this

also, I can't remember if it was a one-off shot or a course of 3? Reply to this

Yellow fever is just a one shot deal, and $95 sounds about right. I got it about four months before I left for Senegal, but I also got it along with a polio booster and a typhoid vaccine. I had a fever, and my arm was quite swollen and sore. My doctors tend to think the reaction was due to the typhoid shot, though. Reply to this
