Need info on Visas for Asia
16 years ago, March 3rd 2008 No: 1 Msg: #29055
Hi there

My fiancee and I will be travelling around world for 6 months as part of our honeymoon. Please could anyone offer any simple advice on visa requirements. We will be flying from India (visa sorted for India) into Hong Kong on 12th July spending about 3 days there then flying up to Beijing on 15th July where we will then make our way overland - trains, buses whatever - down to Singapore for our flight to Australia on 1st September. Hoping to visit Shanghai and other towns / Cities along the way.

Do we need to get these visas in the UK before we set out or can we obtain while out there? I have been told Chinese visa only valid for 3 months from date of issue but if we get it from UK before we go then there's a chance time will run out as we are leaving the UK in May to get married in Cyprus in June and then we will be in India for June and early July!

If anyone can offer any insight I would be very grateful!!

Thankyou in advance.

Lois

Hi lois

I''m in Asia now and have been here for 14 months travelling around.

Easy information...

Hong Kong - No Need
China - possible to get in Hong Kong but i'd get it before you leave, you can get agencies to do it for you and its reliable.
Vietnam - Buy on the border
Cambodia - at the border
Laos - At the border
Thailand - free 30 days at border and easy to hop in and out for another free 30 days (max 90 days)
Malaysia - free 30 days
Singapore - again just a stamp
Indonesia - buy 30 day visa at port of entry, get to sumatra or Bali if you can.
Australia - cheap internet e-visa available, much cheaper than a real visa and you'll just need a stamp after that.

Anymore information just ask.

Actually forget what I said about Vietnam... I forgot...

I got mine in a city called Nanning (not Nanjing as is most popular) on the way to Vietnam, only a short train journey away. However its only a small city and not really worth hanging around in as most cities that size in China are quite similar.

Get you visa in Beijing (no embassy in Shanghai as I remember), if you go on the first day by the time you finish siteseeing and all that it will be ready for you.

The rest of the information is 100% correct.
