Hey guys,

We're planning our trip for around december time, basically we want to really make the most of it and have some amazing experiences, looking for recommendations for any breathtaking places to visits or must sees. Also if anyone could recommend good treks/interesting accomidation etc, also pretty keen for things like skydiving so if you know of anywhere particular safe or good?

Cheers! Reply to this

Hi Marty,

If you got a chance to stop by Chiangmai north Thailhand and you are looking for some adventure trip then you might want to try the combo biking/ elephant riding/ rafting, truly fantastic !
Have fun! Reply to this

Hello Marty 😊

I can recommend some accomodation. I dont know much about trecking and skydiving because I dont do either.
U could sleep in a treehouse in Khao Sok or Pai. There are probably some at other locations but I dont know where.
I also liked the Blue Star Guest House in Kanchanaburi. U can get a room on stilts with a balcony overlooking the River kwai. Another I liked is Arts River Lodge at Khao Sok. It has a natural pool beside it where monkeys come to play and swim in the evenings.

The white water rafting is pretty good around Pai. There are many tour groups offering treks, mountain biking, rock climbing out of Chaing Mai. There is bungee jumping and go karts in Chaing Mai also. I am unaware of any skydiving.

Oh and Laos is indescribably beautiful. The bus ride from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng was amazing! Highly recommend it. Then in Vang Vieng it is super chilled, lots of caves to explore. There is tubing on the river (you rent a tube and ride it from the top of the river back into town, along the way there are bars you can stop in for drinks, some bars even have massive zip lines and rope swings). Be warned, there is a fair amount of drug use here. Most restaurants have a "happy" menu, which basically means adding weed, mushrooms or opium to your food for really cheap. Good if you're into that thing. I kayaked from Vang Vieng to Vientienne, it was a great day and an interesting way to travel.

Laos is still not that well traveled, traveled well enough that it isn't hard to get around but still relatively untouched. I can't recommend it enough!

Cheers,

Just wondering what the easiest way to get to Laos from bangkok is, particularly to Vang Vieng. Cheers Reply to this

Hi Marty,

Great minds think alike! I'm planning a trip to SE Aisa in Dec as well. Only going for a month but I'm hoping to land in Chang Mai, spend few days doing adventure sports before going to Northern Loas to do the Gibbon Experience. After that I:m going the take the slow boat to Luag Probang the then the bus down to VV. After that no idea yet. The Gibbon Experince is 3days in treetop houses zipping around on ziplines that are supposed to be up to a quater of a mile long! COOOL my kinda a fun. Not found skydiving anywhere yet but I'll let you if I do.

Cheapest way to Laos from bangkok is to bus to the Friendship Bridge at Nong Khai and then shuttle to Vientienne. From Vientienne you can bus to Vang Vieng. You can also choose to fly to Vientienne from Bangkok. I guess the third option would be to take a train to the Friendship Bridge. There is also an airport in Luang Prabang, if you would prefer to start there instead of Vientienne. Vang Vieng is inbetween Luang Prabang and Vientienne. Reply to this

How long does the bus take? Both from Bangkok to Vientienne and also vientienne to Vang Vieng? Thanks heaps for your continuing help! Reply to this

I never took the bus from bangkok to vientienne but I think it is an overnight bus. Also, I went from Vang Vieng to Vientienne by kayak, so I am unsure of that time also. Your best bet is to just google the information, I'm sure it is posted somewhere on the internet. Reply to this

Hey,
I just finished 5 months in all of the places you're going so I thought I'd give you a few recommendations.

Laos- Definately check out Don Det in the 4000 islands in southern Laos if you get the chance. In addition to the tubing, Vang Vieng has killer rock climbing. You can white water kayak or raft from Luang Prabang but the white water is better in No. Thailand in the dry season.

Thailand- Beware of Chiang Mai based treks- they're extremely touristy and they aren't run responsibly. I went diving in Koh Tao- they have cheap certification courses, many of them including accomodation.

Vietnam- Canyoning and abseiling (repelling) in Dalat was great. I went with Groovy Gecko tours and they were very cool. Mui Ne is the spot for sailing, kite surfing and wind surfing but can be a bit pricey. Nha Trang also has good watersports- surfing, wakeboarding, etc. but, again it's a little expensive.

I highly recommend touring or traveling by motorbike whenever possible. It's the best way to see a place as you travel through it and you can go at your own pace, stopping as much as you want for pictures or detours. 125cc bikes are pretty readily available in any country. Some places even offer transport for your baggage, like between Chiang Mai and Pai.

Safe travels.

Dan
