Best route to take round India

Hi,

we are travelling India for 3 months next year and need some advice on the best route to take and good places to visit and places to avoid. Also, we will be flying from Thailand and are wondering roughly how much a flight will cost from Thailand to India and if it is possible to fly into Goa because we want to go down the west coast and explore the south first. We don't want to fly into Mumbai as we are flying home from there and want to avoid going there twice. Any help would be much appreciated.

u will find jet airways having thailand to india flights and many others
try these sites too book ur tickets
www.MakeMyTrip.com
www.yatra.com

and find ticket and place to go of ur convenience frm thailand to india. u can come from thailand(bangkok) to kolkata / chennai / bangalore as u wish. bangalore and chennai are in south india and kolkata in east india. formally knows as calcutta.

these are all cities. if u are really into touring and adventure mood , visit www.incredibleindia.org and plan ur trip as u said u want to visit the western cost. u can visit temples in tirupati , go rackoon on goa beaches and visit kerela for its beauty .. then u can shift to madhya pradesh and see the khajuraho and lots of other places . slowly shift towards north east or west as u like . i would recommend to visit goa in the last as it is nearest to mumbai and u can have ur last indian holidays in goa and den off to mumbai to take ur flight .
must visiting places are :

1. rajasthan
2. madhya pradesh
3. tirupati
4. kerela

for further details u can contact the indian tourism office. do not visit jammu and kashmir or assam. Reply to this

Hi,

I have been in India for the last 5 weeks and I am heading to Bangkok next week. It has been a weird and wonderful experience. However, I traveled the North of India and went down to Mumbai and now chilling out in Goa. 3 months will be loads of time to see the parts of India you want. My advice would be if you can do a camel safari, its great fun and if you going to Taj Mahal do a day trip because Agra is no fun at all.

I have flights booked from Mumbai to bangkok for about EUR 180.00. I am sure you could get them cheaper!

Enjoy India its crazy.

Cheers

Hi there!!

Travelling around India really depends on what places you want to see. I lived in Northern India for four months and have travelled relatively extensively in that area. If you are arriving in Goa and leaving from Mumbai then I would probably look at travelling south, travelling up the east coast to the north and then returning to Mumbai.
It depends how many places you wish to see along the way, it may be a better use of time to book an internal flight to get across the country quickly. Alternatively fly to Delhi, or Agra or somewhere and then come to Goa and Mumbai at the end as the two are relatively close together.

I'm afraid my recommendations of places to visit are limited to the North of India but anyway here goes...
Definitely visit Delhi - you can get a day tour of the city with a private taxi for 500-600 rupees and they will really get you around all the major tourist spots in a day. Definitely check out the Red Fort and Humayun's Tomb.

Agra as already mentioned is a dump. I went there and managed to see the Taj Mahal at dawn and visited Agra Fort both of which were amazing. The town itself is not particularly nice and the level of animal cruelty is horrific. If I were to do it again I would aim to get there for the afternoon, see Agra Fort, visit the Taj first thing in the morning and then move on. It's not worth hanging around too long.

Jaipur is an amazing place to visit and has plenty in the way of museums and palaces. - The three are obviously the famous 'golden triangle' and often tours can be arranged in Delhi for quite reasonable prices. Rajasthan is also the perfect place for doing camel safaris - anything from a couple of hours to a few days.

Amritsar is a must-see. The Golden Temple is simply breathtaking - and it's even possible to rent a room for the night there! There are also some great Hindu temples in the town, a great market and the closing of the border is easy (and free) to see too.

Other great places to visit are Shimla, Manali (great place for skiing, paragliding and adventures!), Haridwar, Rishikesh, Mussoorie, Dharamsala and of course McLeod Ganj (visit the Dalai Lama's Palace and temple).
