BBC Report

Mrs Amash has 10 children, 120 grandchildren, 250 great-grandchildren, and 30 great-great-grandchildren, according to relatives.

She has to send her documents for validation by the Guiness Book of Records - if I were her I'd make sure they were sent registered and insured (surely Guiness can offer to reimburse the costs?) Reply to this

What a lovely story....and thoughtful idea from you, because we are talking London England, where nothing gets delivered on time to where its meant to go, if at all, even if it is registered. And to reimburse means dealing with many different departments who don't talk to each other during working hours in the official sense...yet all smoke fags outside together during break times. Her claim will be passed from department to department, no one having a real clue what it is about. This could take up to 6 months to work through the cooperate system, to finally get authorised by the head of Guinness, to send a cheque for the sum of £3.50, then it is sent back by UK second class post, which will take another 2 months if lucky to arrive in Jisr az-Zarqa-Isreal.
But that's only going to happen if she ticked all the right boxes and listed a return address including a full post code, at 120 years old her hand writing may be shaky, she may not be up speed on her PC skills so I hope she has a fully competent secretary with a maths and English degree to deal with the paper work and slow English way of dealing with things. Lets just hope after all that she isn't out 'walking' when the postman comes leaves a calling card and sends it back to the Jisr sorting office. But then when she finally receives this great honour bestowed upon her by The Guinness Book of Records London England...she will be at least 121 years old. Would she have to do this every year till she dies? Reply to this

120. Wow!!!!
Apparently the human life span is 150 years.
I read that there are a number of factors preventing us from getting so old. Amongst them are mineral diffeciency in out diets and depression.
I sometimes wonder if I would like to reach 150 years. I think if I remain able bodied for my whole life I would like to so I can see the world changing decade after decade.
Would anybody else like to reach this age? I am curious about peoples opinions on the subject.

And here is the new worlds oldest man. Is the very oldest always a woman?

British World War One veteran Henry Allingham is the world's oldest man at 113 following the death of the previous holder of the title, Japan's Tomoji Tanabe, Guinness World Records said on Friday.

Mell, in regards to your question - I couldn't think of anything worse than being the Oldest Man/Woman whatever on Earth... I don't know, is it something that you consider an acheivement? Would be interested to hear what these oldest people think about these things :P Reply to this

I would like to see the changing world over a century and a half.

But, this is with the presumption that I will be reasonably able bodied all my life. I am not so sure I would want to be alive at 120 if I was confined to bed and could not even feed myself or go to the bathroom independently. Though, if I could still sit up and read and watch the world news and use the internet, I would likely still feel like I was observing the world in a satisfactory enough way, even if I could not get on a plane and personally check it all out . Is Mrs Amash still alive? Or does Eugénie Blanchard now hold the Oldest in the World title?

Mrs. Amash sounds like a lovely lady, relatively healthy and happy with her family around her.

My answer is based on the fact that I have been a registered nurse for the past 28 years. I wouldn't mind living to 120 if I was continued to understand what was going on around me and have some quality of life. I am not looking for the most years but the most experiences.

In hospitals each day I see our physicians keeping people breathing and technically alive. Many of these situations are not what I would pick for myself. In her last years my mother was nearly bed ridden but loved watching old movies on TV, talking with her sister on the phone each day and watching Court TV. She had her own little happiness. When her disease processes took that interest away from her..... she lost interest in living.

I am seeking a quality of life and will not measure it in the number of years. Reply to this
