Travelling solo and looking for accomodation advice

I will be heading to Thailand in April, spending one night in Bangkok, taking the overnight train to Chiang Mai and then flying to Samui and heading to Koh Phangan for the April full moon party.

I'm looking for budget accomodation recommendations. I will be travelling solo, so I am looking for places where it is easy to meet other travellers. I'd like clean, with hot water showers, and preferably air con as I will be there during the hottest month. Price range is on the low side. I would say $10-20 a night.

For Koh Phangan - I would like to be close enough to the full moon party for it to be convenient, but at the same time be able to get some sleep the next day and even possibly that night if I decide to leave early. I've read some good things about Leela beach and am wondering if anyone has stayed anywhere there. I will only be arriving 2 days before the party so am nervous about not booking ahead of time. Again, i'd really like to be staying somewhere where it would be easy to meet other solo travellers in their 20s. Any recommendations of places to stay and when and where to book? I was looking at the Cocohut website...any thoughts on that?

Chiang Mai - was reading some really good reviews of Spicy Thai backpackers but it seems to be outside of the old city. Also read a good review of Julie's guesthouse. Anyone have any recommendations for Chiang Mai? Also, any recommendations on who to book a Hill tribe trek with?

Bangkok - any recommendations here? Should I stay on Khao San road? I'll be arriving really late and then taking the overnight train the next night so would need a place who would be willing to store my bag until my train leaves.

Thanks in advance for any advice! Reply to this

Bangkok , Do you have only 1 night? it sounds very short and not enought for it.
Anyway, it's up to your time . KhaoSan Rd. is convenient and cheap but far from the Train station (Hualamphong). Reply to this

Hi there,
Was in Chiangmai 7 months ago, if you are looking for trek you might as well be interested by some adventure journey... Went on a biking/ white water rafting journey up in the mountain and it was truly amazing !! Check out Chiangmai Adventure , their team was really great and we got to go to some really remote area while having a lot of fun! Enjoy your trip to Thailand! Reply to this
