Absolutely ridiculous. The use of Egyptian fakes is free advertising for Egyptian tourism. If people were to destroy all the copies that have ever been made, Egypt would gain no copyright money and would lose all the free press. I can't imagine why they would do such a stupid, stupid thing. Reply to this

Mr Zahi Hawass is a colourful archaeologist and Egyptologist. He is known for his demand to return important Egyptian artefacts such as the bust of Nefertiti from the Ägyptisches Museum in Berlin and the Rosetta Stone from the British Museum in London (everybody who has visited the crammed and dusty exhibition rooms in the Egyptian museum in Cairo will agree that the aforementioned artefacts are better kept at their current locations for the foreseeable future).
Mr Hawass’ latest idea is indeed a bit ridiculous, as TeamTurner has pointed out already. In Egypt, tourism accounts for some $7 billion annually. Is it really necessary to introduce royalties for the commercial use of copies of Egyptian artefacts? I don't think so. Reply to this

Hi,
I don't understand why Egypt should take such a stupid move .
Whatever we have in this world as the Memory of past and which helps us to know the history must not be copyrighted.
i think that would also cause loss in the Income of Egypt through tourism. Reply to this

I think a combination of greed and ruthlessness gets one on the fast track to power. There seems to be no shortage of people with those requirements in the world.

But copyrighting the pyramids!!!! I agree that controls are needed to protect people and democracy but things like copyrighting the pyramids is an example of taking things too far in my opinion.
